Could it matter what the dog sleeps on besides what his personal preference is? i.e towel laying on hard floor or a soft bed.
i'm thinking that besides being more comfortable something softer would be better for his back and joints??
Particularly with larger dogs, it makes a difference what surface they lay on. Large breeds will tend to develop caluses on the elbows from laying on hard surfaces. This can also lead to a large, fluid filled sack that can look fairly nasty. This sack will cushion the elbow joint when the dog lays down. Most people have these drained. There is a school of thought that it is better to leave these alone and let them heal on their own.
