Good day all. I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about finding other local BARFers in your own area? I'm looking to find a few others who are willing to go in on purchasing meat in bulk for our pups. I went to Yahoo then went to the "groups" section, but I'm a bit hard pressed to find the info I need.
I live in the Tampa/St. Pete area of Florida if anyone from that area reads this. Thanks and have a good one.
If you search yahoo groups with your city and/or state and also words like "barf" there are tons of groups. I found out about a lot of good places to go in the Phoenix are by joining the Phoenix Barf group on yahoo.
I haven't joined the ranks of this group yet, but met a couple people and may get on board in the next month or so.
I know this is a CA group, but the links page may have some add'l contacts that could get you going. There's a TX group - that's a little closer <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Can any one confirm this?- "The Grapefruit Seed Extract kills any bacteria or toxins during preparation of the food".....
I wanted to believe those claims when I was starting raw feeding. My vet laughed, but I still wanted to believe it -- so I did a lot of reading online. I found that the only people offering "scientific evidence" that it was true were people selling the stuff. Everything else appeared to be nothing but anecdotal evidence.
This site contains an article about it and links you to many others.......articles by people who aren't selling the stuff and who are scientists.
A quote from their article:
Even more curious is the fact that almost all of the grapefruit seed extract products on the market contain preservatives that are intended to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi! This would make one wonder why, if these extracts were so powerful, the full strength concentrate (which should be far more effective in preventing microbial growth than the label recommended diluted dose) needs any preservative at all? .....It seems to us at WellVet.com that the entire effectiveness of grapefruit seed extract is due totally to the presence of the preservatives, and the grapefruit seed extracts have no antimicrobial effects on their own. END QUOTE
Maybe it does have antimicrobial properties. I've seen scholarly evidence that there are several foods that do. But even if it does, the amounts required to be efffective would be huge, according to these articles.
Yahoo has several good groups to go to. Rawfed pups and carnivore feed suppliers. They like the new term Rawfed now.Go to yahoo groups and type these two in and have fun. I also feed raw. E-mail if I can help.
