I have been saving to import a czech pup...the main hinderance is the cost of shipping...is there a way to "combine" shipping with multiple pups (if I find someone else in the region to get pup from same litter)? My thinking is that they can share the same crate etc., any ideas?????? has anybody done this? Pros/cons? thanks
Someone told me that airlines are OK with putting multiple pups from the same litter in the same crate and that it does cut down on shipping costs. Don't know any specific details, I'll be importing a pup from Holland in April, from what I understand it should cost less than $500, so as long as that holds true, it's fine by me.
I just shipped a dog and it cost me $630 with a crate to Salt lake, UT. you should be fine for about $400-$500. Also make sure the company gets all the paperwork and vet paperwork together.
I would not recommend to have two dogs shipped together, the price is done by size of the crate plus number of animals so it might cost you more. Also the pups are pretty stresses when they arrive. It is up to you, but insted of trying to focus on finding a pup that goes to the US the same day and with the same company, maybe you can focus on a good transportation company...
That is my opinion. I hat troubles before..
One more thing:the breeder doesnt provide transportation? they have deals with companies maybe they can help you. Or at least direct you.
Good luck it can be such a pain sometimes.
Check with your breeder but some will actually find the best rate for you, even if they have to drive a little. My german import cost about $366 to ship and another $80 for the crate purchase, but it semmed pretty cheap over all and he arrived o.k.
Not to hijack the thread.... but has anyone heard of the company DTC? The breeder in Holland that I am getting my pup from says they will organize the whole shipping process for me (in additional cost to the price of the puppy naturally) and ship their pups to the US via "DTC". I've never heard of DTC and having trouble finding any info on Google, so if anyone knows anything about them let me know.
I have got 2 pups in the same crate before. At one point the shipping company from Germany said (3) were OK for the right size kennel.
I only have experience with 2 pups being shipped at the same time. It's very common so you won't be the "odd ball" asking for this.
DTC is a reputable company. Also there is Gradlyn. I have used Gradlyn for dogs coming from Belgium and Germany; never Holland.
Typically there is the cost of shipping, the cost of the crate and most times a transport fee for picking up the pup.
The transport fee can get pricey. I have seen it anywhere from 125 EURO to 300 EURO for pick up alone. Then the cost of shipping can be another 300 or 400 EURO.
Perhaps you want to ask this up front and make your decision from there.
