I was watching TV and this hilarious ad came on. It showed a guy walking his Great Dane and he stops to get coffee so he tells his dog to sit. While he is purchasing the coffee the dog spys a kid in a stroller with an ice cream cone. Although the dog is dying to get that ice cream he doesn't break the sit. The end of the ad essentially claims that is what you get with their training class.

Was the Ad on the Sci-Fi channel?
Because it sure sounds like fiction from what I've seen of their "training" classes!
I've seen the commercial. If you watch it close, the mom is pushing the stroller out of reach of the dane, who is reaching for the cone. If it wasn't for the mom, the dane would have gotten it. Back to Petsmart to throw more money down the sewer.
I've seen that commercial and always find it good for a laugh. I just wish my collies were still living. They'd all have gotten a good "laugh."
Please don't sell PetsMart and similar trainers short! As with any company the trainers vary in competence and experience. A friend of mine trains dogs at such a business and is a very good trainer, of people and dogs. She has Schutzhund and therapy dog experience, which certainly adds to her abilities. She makes very clear to the "students" that it is up to them to use the tools she's giving them and to keep working with their dogs if they want solid, lifetime results. And, as an aside, her dog would not only "leave it" with the ice cream, he would not even *look* at it! Anyhow, just my two cents worth.
For sure there are some very competent trainers working at Petsmart and other large stores. It just seems that there are many bad ones *and* owners who don't train their dogs.
The trainers there are, in a sense, politically correct. They don't train the way dogs are supposed to be trained because it MIGHT offend someone. Although there are a couple of wonderful hard asses out there in the corporate world, the vast majority squeel is a high voice and click a clicker in the faces of dogs until they pass out.. most of the time I think it is just as not to offend anyone.
Sieben fuhr'n nach Düsseldorf, einer fuhr nach Köln!
Here is one of the problems with petsmart. I buy my supplies there but would never dream of taking my dog to one of their classes for training. I formed a relationship with the trainer there and asked if I could use a class for destraction training. She said I could but I was not aloud to use my prong. As asked her if she was opposed to them and she said she wasn't but Petsmart has actually banned all use of a prong in their training classes. She said there have only been two occasions where she has been aloud to use the with very domanint dogs and she actually have to fill out extensive paperwork for the upper management to approve.
The trainers are not all morons but most are. The ones that do know what they are doing are handcuffed by the ridiculous rules of the compant. Pretty sad.
I keep hearing about Petsmart on this website. What is it? Is this a pet store/food store/training facility? I've never hear of a place that sells pet food and trains dogs! Maybe cause I'm way up here in Canada (eh?)
