I need help from anyone who has dealt with a problem breeder. I am having trouble receiving a refund she said she would give. What are the steps to take in a situation like this? Any information would be greatly apprecaited. We have been VERY patient but this breeder has been blowing us off since last fall.
Did she have a contract? Did it state that the deposit or any other transactions were refundable? If its your word against hers, there isn't much you can do. But if there is a contract that both of you signed, then contact your lawyer.
Hope this helps!
Jennifer and Ann, thank you for your input. Here is what happened.... I have an agreement that stated if the dog would have hip Displasia that she would replace the dog. That is what happened . I had a female and at 13 months I got her hips x-rayed and she had moderate HD. I contacted the breeder and sent her the x-rays and she agreed the films were conclusive. She tried to get more money out of me for a replacement puppy which I refused. I also had a lot of problems with this dog and the breeder would not return phone calls or e-mails. I also know of another man locally that purchased a puppy from the same breeder and had to put the dog to sleep at 6 months old for attacking his nephew. After my experience with this breeder and this other guy, I decided that I did not want another puppy from this breeder. So my husband and I called her and asked if she would consider refunding our money(we did not say anything to her about all of the above info.) She finally said she would only refund $1,000.00 of our money. Even though we paid $1800.00 for said pup. We agreed and she told us to call back in the spring. When we did her response to us was "I just sold a bunch of puppies why didn't you call"! Can you believe it? Anyway we are trying to see how best to proceed. Also, is there a board or anything to put in a complaint about a breeder?
Colleen, I'm curious who your female is out of...I have a male from her last litter. From what I know she no longer even has German Shepherds. Once again I'm just curious =)
Breeders will tell you anything to get your money. some will even give you a contract full of lies you can't make them pay up....i know, i'm dealing with one myself....

My experience is that if a breeder does not want to do the right thing either to honor their committments or to protect their kennel name, nothing short of legal action will change that.
