Rixi vom Posthorn SchH1 passed away on Tuesday. She had just celebrated her 13th birthday on December 29, 2005. she went peacefully and was surrounded by the great staff here at Leerburg, who loved her and had become her extended family.
Her cancer had grown enormously, we estimate the tumor(s) in her liver and spleen weighed 25 pounds or more and today she lost the use of her back legs. until this morning, she was her old self…chasing toys, barking and playing tug. She told us today was the day to let her go and we allowed her to on her own terms.
We will miss her terribly but know she is now in a better place with endless sticks to carry, bags of chicken to pilfer and fax machines to toss around. She was best known for putting her toys in the boxes of outgoing orders in Leerburg’s office, and occasionally trading it for a new one she liked better. If it’s possible for a dog to have a dry sense of humor, she certainly did.
See you on the other side Rixi Roo.

My deepest, heartfelt sympathy in the loss of Rixi, but also my joy for your memories of experiencing the world through loving, trusting eyes. They can never be taken away or forgotten.
As you think, so shall you be. |

I'm sorry to hear about Rixi, she was the first German Shepherd that I had ever been around. I still remember reading this site for 6 months everyday all day, and when I walked into the office to buy a book on feeding animals I didn't even have yet, and Rixi was there to greet me. My first thought was "oh shit" when she in the doorway before I was, then she looked to down to grab her toy and toss it at me to play.

Ed, Cindy & all the girls in the office....sorry to hear about Rixi. She was such a sweetheart. I remember that she met me at the office door when I was out there to visit. She will be very missed, I am sure. She will be in your hearts forever and will be waiting for you at the bridge.

Ed.. I'm so sorry to here about Rixi.. I haven't seen her in person.. but I've seen her on multiple DVDs.. and yes.. I did get some of her fur on a few toys that I ordered.. The colors match her coat.
But I'm sure she's in a better place, and you should be happy for her..

I am so sorry. This always brings it all back......it's a very hard thing to go through, but a blessed gift we are allowed to give: the peaceful end with the friend at the side.

I was one of the lucky ones to have known Rixi most of her life and to have one of her daughters, two grandsons, and one great-grandson. Rixi gave me my foundation female for my breeding program. Rixi certainly made us laugh many times, especially with her fax machine incident. Apparently she didn't like getting faxes and decided to take out that darn machine But I never will forget visting Cindy and going into the kennel to feed my dogs only to find her loose (she had gotten out of her kennel). The only thing left of two 10 lb bags of chicken leg quarters was the empty bag. Then she decided to top off her binge by eating another 20 lbs of kibble. She never got sick LOL. She made her stamp in this world and her progeny looks and acts a lot like her. Her legacy does live on and I am happy to preserve it. Rixi, you will be missed.

Ed, I'm sorry hear of your loss . Its never easy, especially when they've been with you for so long. Rixi sounds like she was quite the character!! No doubt she has left a legacy behind her and many fond memories for the Leerburg staff (or from the sounds of it, all who knew her) to remember her by. My sincerest condolences!
