Looks like a lot of BS mixed with a little good information. Anytime someone says something to the effect that Operant Conditioning is a code word for food bribery, they are usually real idiots.
biting people as a direct result of owners trying to train their dog with food.
We all know food treats lead directly to your dog eating your hand right off your arm.
People who shouldn't take obedience classes:
Quote:
People who are easily embarrassed or have anxiety,
professionals, business people, busy people, people on tight schedules,
children, teenagers, the elderly, those who are frail or have disabilities,
or IF YOU NEED RESULTS "NOW!"
Alrighty then. I'll be dropping off my dog with you at noon. I'll expect to pick him up with his SchH III in a couple of hours!
Why you shouldn't go to obedience school:
Quote:
The trainer may ask you to leave.
• Most people feel humiliated and embarrassed in classes and quit
• All the other people in class may stare at you like you are mean or clueless.
• You may be ignored and treated unfairly.
This person is pretty good at trying to turn people off obedience training classes, aren't they? I know a whole lot of people that would never have gone into agility, competition obedience and yes, even Schutzhund, if it weren't for that first obedience class that got them interested and involved.
I love it when people sum up a dog training method in so few words..."you use food, you MUST be bribing him!" Reminds me also of a bunch of people I met who sincerely think training with toys leads dogs to chase anything moving no matter what or where.
Oh yeah....they also steal other peoples pictures off the internet and don't give credit for it or try to pass them off as their dogs.
Real ethical....
Also...... despite this "Dave Baron's" claim that food, toys, etc., are worthless training tools, many ( if not most ) of the National Obedience and SchH Champions use these on a regular basis.
Yet I don't see this Dave guy as a National Champion ( or even as a competitor, which should be the big give-away )
Robert, he says that he can "train anydog!" Send him Emma......
