Hi all, one of my Dobe puppy owners has asked about a coat for his Dobe for working/training in the winter! All he can find is "poodle" coats! I've done a quick search of Leerburg's Equipment catalogue but only found vests.
Dogwarm is a good coat manufacturer. They are made more like horse blankets. If you search for that brand you should find a retailer. I think mine was purchased at Dover Saddlery. It was a gift though so I don't know. Not cheap- but they are thinsulate lined and very nice.
I got one at a horsey place "Chicks" and I think most horse places sell them. They are like horse blankets. Got mine for $20 on sale and it is heavy and well made.
I keep them in the car for those cold days the dogs get soaked. Like the day my dog fell off the boat in 40 degree weather with 15 mph winds .... it was nice to have for the rest of the day. (After I toweled her off off course -- her *car* towels are nicer than my own )
Hi
I buy my coats for a very very reasonable price from National Bridle Supply. They are very very well made and very reasonable
I buy light weight jackets and light weight sweater/flannel sleepers for lack of a better word from several people that do business on http://www.greytalk.com (hope taht is ok to post)they make themcustom for a very reasonable cost
I have three greyhounds...who get very cold and like to run and scamper ,fetch balls, etc
so I have assorted weights
my heavy coats are from National bridle, super durable, washable, water proof and awesome
the lighter weight stuff...for when it is not nearly is ascold are from the independents in the pet merchandise part of greytalk
my Dobe deals w/it by avoiding it: he's out 2 seconds (10, if he has to poop). he also HATES rain, same deal. BUT, he can get away w/it because he's a spoiled house dog that doesn't have to work for a living.
i have tried a couple of coats for him (from pet co), but they weren't sturdy enough AT ALL, and he still hates rain.
but good question from Al--or are they all from florida? i'd be interested in the answer--how DID they get by in those so-nice German winters?
