Colleen, Like you, I was very interested in the vaccinations our animals seem to be getting so much of. When you start researching into this, you will be amazed at how many veternarians oppose so much of the drugs our animals are getting. I am not into this holistic scene, but I found the following website very interesting and to be right on target. http://www.ShirleysWellnessCafe.com.
Read the section under "Routine Animal Vaccination:Is it really safe and effective".
While I am opposed to giving my animals or myself any type of medication unless it is absolutely necessary, I have some problems with shirley's wellness cafe. The point that she made about how disease is a natural way of cleansing the gene pool is a bunch of crap. While this may be true, we must understand that our dogs and ourselves are not wild animals who are living under the laws of "survival of the fittest". In my area there are a lot of raccoons. Each year there are a certain number of rabies and distemper outbreaks recorded by the wildlife officials. About every ten years or so, there is an extreme outbreak. When the populations become too dense the results of these outbreaks are devastating to the raccoon population in our area. The same would be true if our dogs were not vaccinated. Are we just expected to allow our dogs to die off every ten years or so and start our breeding projects over again and allow our loved ones die. This would be much more natural. I am not an expert on vaccinations nor do I doubt that they could be harmful but, I feel that it is worth the risk to avoid the alternative. Please feel free to criticize my opinion or let me know if you feel the same way.
There's much more money in the biz when you bring your pet every year or six months to get a shot and to fill it with chemicals.
Over time allergies eat them up, their hair falls out, etc.
When I first came here my dog was nearly on his last leg (almost 3yrs old), his hair was all falling out, he was sick from itching 24/7. He wasn't even like himself, didn't want to play or anything.
I quit getting the vaccaines after coming here, and decided to get them every three years. I fast him once a week. He's thinner than before, but all of his hair's back. He acts like he did as a puppy, he's so healthy. He hardly ever has fleas, no ticks, nothing.
The fasting thing I think has worked the best. He was genetically weak with his immune system. The stronger his immune system, he can recover from injury fast, he doesn't have fleas crawling all over him.
It seems once the vaccines start taking effect, then they get a lot of allergies, it starts breaking them down slowly. Some might say this method saves money and that's the reason, but everything has worked that I've learned here. The more money I spent the more unhealthy he became.
Remember folks .. it isn't a LAW that you have to vaccinate with Distemper Parvo.. etc.. only Rabies.. so if you only want to vaccinate once every three years.. do that.. if you don't want to revacciinate at all.. just do titers.. My biggest thing is just DON'T GIVE COMBINATION VACCINES TO PUPPIES!!!! If you can't find a vet to separate them for you.. look for a homeopathic vet..
