On Sunday I got an email from Nick Essick. Nick worked here at Leerburg for 3 years while he was iin high school. He was on of Jeff's (my sons) best friends. Nick is a gunner ona a humvee that escorts convoys all over Iraq. He was on his way from Mosul to the Syrian border.
In the last two weeks his company has killed 11 terrorists. He has had 2 IED's go off within 50 yards of his uparmored humvee. They were lucky they had no injured Americans.
As we go about our daily lives - we should not forget we are at war. I wonder what would happen if only half of the 11 terrorists had made it to America.
You can see a photo of Nick on my web site. click here Nicks picture is half way down the web page.
My cousin Michael is a Special Forces operator currently deployed to Iraq and my other cousin Patrick is a Marine current in the 'Stan. We speak often and according to them, reality on the ground over there is NOTHING like you see on the US news (as most of us have heard from different sources).
De Oppresso Liber - "Liberate the Oppressed"
Semper Fi - "Always Faithful"
If you have not seen this video - watch it. I get mad at this board program - dont ever buy this one if you do a board. I added this thred this morning and its off the board tonight
Its a garbage program but we are locked into it for now.
Thank you ED! My nephew is a officer (Lt) in the Marines(recon). He's had two tours in Iraq. One in Hati. He's now a Recon instructor. God bless them all!
Thanks Ed, Great video....sometimes we get so busy with our lives & if you don't have someone really close to you in the service branches...you tend to forget how much of a sacrifice is made by these soldiers on our behalf... thanks for reminding us all to take that time to stop & think about all that we have & enjoy thanks to all of them.

Thanks Ed, Great video........
Yes. "A Pittance of Time," indeed, to stop and remember what's happening over there. My niece is serving, and I'm send her the URL too, just to say that we DO stop and remember and bless them.

Seeing your sons' picture puts a lump in my throat. My dad retired from Ft Benning. He fought in WW2, Korea & was an advisor in Vietnam. What my father did & what your son is doing cannot be thanked enough. Regardless of someones belief in the validity of a war, they must believe all these guys are true heroes.

I guess a person can only say "thank you" so many times, but I'm going to say it anyway....thank you very much Ed, for posting this. It is beautiful and powerful and I challenge anyone to watch the whole video and not get a bit misty-eyed. I must admit I thought it was a nice touch that it was Canadian but the message speaks to everyone.
I have never been a part of the armed forces but I feel a deep gratitude for those of you who are, or were....on both sides of the border. Those who fought for us (and are still fighting for us) deserve recognition and respect. It shouldn't be reserved for just one day out of the year but it's nice that they have that day so we can officially let them know how much we appreciate them.
Okay, the air is getting thin up here on my soapbox so I'm just going to step down now... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
It is my sincere hope, that we as a people who uphold the value of liberty, should NEVER be so blind as to allow our vanity or the struggles in our own lives to overshadow the duty fufilled by those in service to our country. Nothing could dishonor the achievement more than to forget that our road to freedom was paid by those who layed down their lives as the bridge.
God bless ALL who've worn a uniform in defense of our country. Your Courage is remembered.
