I'm freaking out. I had xrays done on Lucky today, and they revealed irregular growth in his right elbow. There is a lot of fuzziness in the joint itself, and what looks like bone growing out to the side. The vet is sending the films to a radiologist at OSU. He said it could be a few different things, but what stuck in my mind, of course, was tumor. Now I'm afraid he has bone cancer or something!!! OR that in the least, he'll have to have his leg amputated!!!
Does anybody know anything about tumors in the joints???? I read that usually they are benign, and nothing to worry about. From what I saw looking at the film, I could not see how this could be removed. What if it's not benign???? I lost my last dog to cancer, and Lucky's only 3 years old!!! I'm not ready to go through that again.
Well just try to cross your fingers. On a positive note the statistical chances of it happening again would be slightly less if this has happened to you before.
It could just be bone. A vet assistant I work with had something similar on her wrist. Just a hard little bump that didn't move around.
Worst case scenario, it is caught early and you have a healthy 3 legged dog. Some friends had a dog with nerve damage that required a front leg to be amputated. Other than a little arthritis later in life everything is fine.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I'm trying keep a positive attitude, but I really don't have a good feeling about this. Just trying to get through each day until Thursday. I'll keep everyone posted on what happens. In the meantime, I'm going to go let my dog on the bed and snuggle with him and the hubster while I watch Mad TV. A few laughs and doggy kisses wouldn't hurt right now.
Lauren could be right. One of my dogs has a small "knot" on his left elbow. I had him x-rayed and tested and it was not cancerous. Probable cause is that he had a minor injury to the elbow and the bone "fixed" the area with a calcium type deposit to heal and protect it. No lingering problems at all. I never noticed it until a routine washing, then I felt it.
There are numerous things that it could be that are not related to cancer. We will all pray for the best for you.
We went on a 5 mile hike yesterday, and his limp was barely noticeable. He kept up with the other two dogs quite well. Maybe it is just something minor....
