I am looking for a Leerburg Dog for sale or if anyone has one or know somone that has one for sale I am looking for a female. I am looking to get in to S & R here in Juneau, Alaska. I know this might be a long shot but I thought I would give it a try.
I know in Whitehorse, Yukon where i am, which as i am sure you know is not that far from where you are, there is one guy who purchased one of Ed's dogs a few months back. I think he is planning on breeding her soon. I'll tell him the next time we cross paths to get in touch with you. We train with the same trainer, so i will see him soon enough.
I want to thank eveyone for the help I got. I am still looking for a Female Pup I would like a German Line Pup. Looking to get in to Schutzhund and S & R. I am looking for a female becasue I read that there noise is allot better them a males noise and a female would like to please her owner.
I have not heard that females have better nose or is more likely to want to please her owner than a male. I think that is more variable between individual dogs than the sexes.
Females *can* be easier to work with, are smaller than males which is good for SAR, and you don't have the issue of correcting them for wanting to mark everything.
Have you checked into SAR teams around you? Are you on a team already? Some teams have a probationary period where they want to make sure YOU will work out before they will even consider letting you bring a dog. I have known of teams who have a period of up to a year and expect you to have operational credentials before bringing a dog.
Some do not allow dogs trained in sport to participate in SAR, regardless of the opinions of those who do not have an issue with it.
Also unless you are retired or independantly wealthy and don't need to work, it would be extremely hard to find the time to do sport AND SAR as SAR training, done properly, should take up most of your weekends and several evenings a week.
Yeah, That would be one reason I would want a female. But that is not the only reason. The other reason would be I would like to get into Schutzhund. I read that females are willing to please there owners But I am so new to Schutzhund that I would need all the help I can get. So yes I guess you can say that I would like a female for breeding but that is not the only reason.
