to my understanding all dogs get worms atleast one time in their life(usually puppies)...
i found a round worm in Nesa'a stool a couple of days ago so i went to the store to get a wormer and got one of the paste dewormer's.. after i gave her this med. in her next two stools i saw a worm. on the package it says to readminister in two weeks to get any of the worms that may have escaped to other places after the first application......
i know i know,,,get to the question......
is this whole thing as simple as it sounds? or is there more to it???
can some one who has experience with this give me some insight please...or if there are any vets. out there please let me know what you think? she is not ill at all or acting different in any way,,,,,,thanks
It's helpful to know the type of worm the dog had. Then understanding the life cycle of the worm gives you an idea of how the dog might have gotten it. Being in the south we use Heartguard Plus for prevention of heartworm, which also help protect against hook and most round worms.
DFrost.
Any behavior that is reinforced is more likely to occur again.
When treating round worms (the only one besides tape worm that are visable to the naked eye) you WILL see round worms pass after deworming...anywhere from one or two to what looks like a small plate of pasta!!! (Sorry if that was too gross sounding..just the best way to describe it!!!
Sometimes a long segment of tape worms can look like a round worm...several segments of a tape worm together. Yes, deworming again in a couple of weeks is a good idea...but the best idea is to find out for sure what you are dealing with. Take either the worm or a fresh stool sample (dime size is all that is needed) to your vet to have them check it out for you.
Good luck...and yes here in the South HW prevention with other dewormer in it is almost a way of live...even for those of us who feed BARF. There are here and we have to deal with them the best way we can!!!
and people wonder why Spaghetti O's and franco american spaghetti gross me out!
I too recommend taking in a stool sample to see if everything is ok before worming again. Tapes *usually* are easy to spot in that they dry and look like a small grain of rice in the hair around the tail area, but I have had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing them when they were still alive and moving.
well with investigation...gross investigation i am sure these are round worms..saw picture on the net and these look exactly like what i saw...i thought at first it was a piece of spaghetti that she sneaked off some how....( wait,,we haven't had spaghetti)
then came my further investigation.....than my web searching......they are round worms....yuk...
