This is the last news article I will post. I promise. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/27/pampered.pets.ap/index.html
I guess I should feel guilty that when I was away I sent my girl to Triple Crown where she got some extra training. They don't offer bedtime stories.
Hey, watch your step here - you're getting close to my neck of the woods, and we just don't have too much else to do Besides, the owners aren't really going away anywhere; they just need some time alone to plant the onions and distill the vinegar
When pets get old and sick, she said, instead of putting them to sleep, they can be checked into pet nursing homes such as Bide-A-Wee's Golden Years Retirement Home in Westhampton, New York.
At Golden Years, cats with similar temperaments are grouped together and play in their own room. Dogs have their own cubicles with bedding. Staff play with the pets and provide daily care, such as medication, cleaning and socialization.
That's sad... not only are the dogs getting old, but they're being sent away from home too! Talk about rejection!

Well, I can't say too much on the subject since I have quite a few family members that might fall into this particular category.
I did find it especially sad that some people would rather send their aging pets away to be cared for elsewhere. I always thought that when you took an animal into your care you would do your best until the animal's death, not get rid of it as soon as it became inconvenient. The flip side is that an owner could consider it a win-win situation. The animal gets care and the owner gets freedom (and the checkbook dies a painful death . Thoughts, anyone?

My dogs' oncologist (Dr. Alice Villalobos) educates & lectures other vets in hospice care. She is doing this so that people will be able to provide optimum care of infirm or aged pets in their own home. Because of her, many people have been able to extend the time they have left with their dogs.
I could change their mind about caring for older dogs if I sent them my 10yr old, blind in one eye JRT with a bad back. I'd even throw in the whip and chair I still need to control the crazy little b#$+^rd.

My 10-year-old granddog, the BT of local face-full-of-quills-but-keep-going-back-in fame, falls into that category too. A nut job, and truly one of my all-time favorite dogs.
That's a good one. Another way to revive an elderly pet is to show it the grave you dug and the box you built for it. After my old girl saw that she figured I was gettin' serious so she healed up right quick.
I love my dogs, but that is stupid. $57 a day, yah right. I got a big backyard filled with things for my dog, don't cost me nothing but pleasure watching them.
