I know, sounds kinda wierd right? Well I need help with this one. Every time I take my dog over to my best friends place, both of his dogs (lab mixes) SHOVE their tongues into my Cane Corso's mouth. They obsessively lick his teeth and mouth all over the inside. They do this non stop. Its actually really disgusting. My buddy says its normal and that his dogs have always done it. Oddly, my dogs don't do it to each other, to anyone else nor have any other dogs besides his done this.
Can you help me out with this? My boy can't STAND it. He tries to run from them moaning/growling while they persistently keep doing it. We both yell stop, but his dogs aren't trained AT ALL to listen to any command aside from the crate command. My buddy is lucky my dog is just a puppy (68lbs, 5 1/2 mos old as of TODAY) but if he were full grown, I don't think his dogs would have a tounge right now. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
What does this insane behavior mean? Is it maybe b/c he's raw fed and they aren't? As if they can smell the meat on his breath. His breath doesn't smell at all of course, to me at least. I dunno... Input please!

why bring your dog there? i wouldn't let that kind of crap happen to my dogs, it sounds like your pup is uncomfortable with the situation and is to young to help himself,

I agree, why put the pup in that situation? He is going to get bigger and sick of that and protect himself one of these days and then you will have your hands full. I would recommend obtaining Leerburgs 8 week to 8 months. Also are you planning on doing something special with your Corso? My niece has one and she has him under control at all times but with the wrong type of handling those dogs can be nightmares.

It's usually a submissive gesture. The yelling and growling only makes them more submissive.

This is a completely normal behavior that dogs do to show submission. The submissive ones lick the mouth and muzzle area of the dog they consider to be dominant.
It's how pups beg for their mom to upchuck some food for them...
I would either not take your dog over there or I would let the dogs interact and go thru their little rituals, yelling and acting excited about it won't accomplish anything but causing tension for everyone.
if this was my dog, I would keep him away from the lab/x's and your problem is solved.

Boy did I just learn something new. I have a dog that did the same thing to my older male, (R.I.P. TANK), drove me and him crazy.

Cindy,This will probably sound silly but we have a very dominant 3yr. old female that is doing this mouth licking with our 5mth. old male! Is she submitting to him?

sounds like it!
Many times what WE construe as the dominant one in a doggie relationship isn't correct.
I have a dog that is submissive to puppies, cats, horses, etc...it's bizarre. It kind of bugs me but I like having a dog that gets along with any creature we encounter. She sends such clear signals of submission and friendliness to other animals that no one wants to beat her up.
It's a far cry from the rest of my beasts! Most of them are more evenly matched in temperament and rank, so there is lots of posturing and squaring off. They know better than to take it to the next level when I am present and they aren't together when I am not with them.
What does your male pup do while the female is licking his mouth? what's his body language tell you? I never get tired of watching my dogs (and horses) go thru these little conversations.

Cindy, this is the answer I was looking for! Thank you. The whole reason I take my dog over there (or anywhere for that matter) is for training purposes. I like to keep him social. In just a few months, he will weight as much as I do (~140 lbs-ish) and I don't want a dog with that much weight and strength to have problems with other dogs. I just can't stop taking my pup over there. He is my best friend and our dogs have fun after about 15 minutes or so of the "mouth licking" and its cool to let them all play. At 5.5 mos. my dog is already bigger than both of his, but MUCH clumbsier, so its pretty funny to watch them play.
So far, it hasn't erupted into a fight. Its just my dog can't really stand it and he runs and they play/chase and do it more. After about 15 minutes, they stop and just play together.

From your original post you made it sound like the other dogs were doing it constantly during the time you and your dog were visiting. You posted they did it "non-stop" and said that your pup would try to get away from them but they persistently kept doing it all while he was moaning and groaning. If it annoys your dog that much you shouldn't put him in that situation. Think how you would like it if someone did something to you that you didn't like (like poking you in the side) constantly for 15 minutes, all the while your protector was standing there letting it happen???
15 minutes seems like a long time to me. If your friend can't control his dogs, nothing is going to stop your pup from inevitabily doing something about it in his own way if you, the pack leader, don't step in. No matter how much socialization these dogs have together, a fight will still more than likely break out if they persist on doing something he doesn't like and you allow them to do it.
