I feed them to my smaller dogs and know many people who feed them to their GSDs and Malinois. My problem is that a couple of my Malinois swallow them whole! I am just not comfortable with that so I only give them to the corgis.
I think it's an owner's choice and depends on the dog's size and what they're used to. I wrote in that thread that I'm concerned (altho it may be unfounded) that my GSD may be more inclined to try to eat/swallow any type bones as she is used to chicken backs/necks on a daily basis. My concern is like Cindy's in that my dog may swallow a rib bone that a much smaller dog wouldn't attempt. In any case, I just stay away from those I consider a possible problem as she wouldn't be getting them for any nutritional value anyway.
If I give these, I let the dogs have them just until they get all the meat off, them take them away if I cannot watch very carefully. In the past, they have cracked the ribs and I am afraid of the splinters. I have only given longish bones (6 inches or so) and I don't think they would try and swallow these.
My dog (Ridgeback, 63lbs.) seems to do fine with the rib bones. She just gnaws away on 'em out in the backyard and I give her a new one every other day or so. I like the fact that ribs are pretty cheap. I worry enough about any hard beef bone to take them away once the bone starts to dry out. I guess what bones to feed mostly depends upon your dog and your comfort level.
About a year ago, my GSD swallowed a whole beef rib bone about 60 seconds after I gave it to him. I tried to stop him but was not able to...I do not give my dogs beef rib bones anymore.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Our silky terriers get rib bones, but our gsds do not - they seem to break chuncks and splinters off and throw them up later. We only give them the big knuckle bones now and after a day we throw them away.
