You are right. I think it is a sort of animal cruelty.
Because of these kinds of commercials, GSD are said to be vicious, ferocious dogs by people who get 90% of the knowledge thru television.
I have always hated those "truth" commercials. That one takes the cake. In a time that people are already fighting BSL, having to jump through hoops to keep their home owners insurance and fighting to counter the impression that GSDs are "dangerous" dogs, this is what they come out with? Great. My tax dollars at work.
trying to learn, but would that poor dog be in "defense"? that's what my gut said--was it right? and i'm not being a smart-a$$, just checking my read of the body language.
I've only seen this commercial on MTV. Has anyone seen it anywhere else? If they're only playing it there, it's not as bad as if they played it on a network that caters to uptight viewers. Trying to look for the bright side...
I don't understand why they didn't use a lion or bear
I am guessing they didn't use a lion or bear simply because it's cheaper and easier to pop a dog into a crate than it is a wild animal. My 16 year old son saw me playing the commercial on my PC (I'd never seen it before). To my surprise, he knew the commercial. He said he'd seen it several times on TV. Interestingly enough, he didn't understand the message they were trying to send. He focused on the snarling dog and just didn't get what this had to do with tobacco. Due to his young age (Phillip Morris and Altria are names of companies he wasn't familiar with) and his disinterest in tobacco (he, our family, his friends don't smoke), all he focused on was the dog . I'm sure he's not alone.
