I know a person living down the raod advertising " Louisianna Catahoulas". Does anyone know anything about these dogs. The owner states that they are working dogs and can be used for police work, agility, hunting, and herding. My uncle was thinking about getting one but he wants $500.00 a pup, says that he has papers on all his dogs.
No personal experience but a fellow who works for my former vet bred them and said they used them for police work in Louisiana because (according to him) they are very tolerant of heat and humidity compared to GSDs. He uses them on hogs.
I'd like to hear from anyone who has personal experience with/seeing these dogs work. I've heard good things and would like to get one someday for mantrailing.
AFAIK, they're typically used as an all around farm dog...Hunting, rounding up cattle, and keeping the riff raff off the property <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
i live on the border of the MS river and across the bridge in louisiana the catahoulah is the state dog. They are a very versatile breed. They are also called catahoula cur.and leopard dogs. Many are born with 2 or 1 glass eye. Some people have been crossing them with pits or american bulldogs to form a catahoulah bulldog. In my area they are used for catch and bay dogs. Some people also use them to blood trail deer and they are natural guardians of property. Most are used to wild boar hunt. In my area you can get them any where from free to about $500. I have never seen them over $500 due to the commonality in my area if they are priced that high over here they have a list of catch titles attached to them. PM me if you want more info on them.
