I've got a 12 month old giant schnauzer. She's a great dog, I'm just wondering about her sleeping habits. Curious what other's experiences may be. She get's about 2 hours of outside exercise per day (several walks and play sessions with me). I'll put her in the crate at 10:30 for the night, she's as quiet as a mouse until 5:30 the next morning. I've been taking her out at that time and we do our morning walk and I play with her, do some obedience, and I groom her. I'm an early riser too. I am thinking about extending her time in the crate, though. I was just curious what other's experience is with regard to the amount of time their dogs stay in the crate from night to morning. Thanks
Hi John, I have a seven month old Saint Bernard and he sleeps in his crate from 9pm to 6am without a peep. We used to have a Bull Mastiff who from puppyhood, would sleep 11 hours easily. In my experience, the bigger the dog the longer they can sleep. You could try gradually extending her time in the crate, by 15 minutes every morning over the course of a week or so and see how she adapts.
Cheers.

My 10 month old Mal goes to bed between 9:30 and 10:00 pm and sleeps until 6 or 7 am. I get up in the at 6 and she usually wakes up and wants to get out. Other times she will stay asleep and I just leave her until she decides to get up. She is in an outside run while I am at work and then we do two seperate training sessions on cadaver every other day and then on other days we work on obedience and building her retrieve. We also play tug daily and go on walks so she gets enough excercise to where it is either lights out or just some quiet decompress time in her crate. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
