Just looked at my boys teeth n his left upper canine is half purple the bottom pointy half has like a purple tint to it, n the rest of his teeth including the upper half are all white. Is this something I should be concerned about?

OK I just read some information about it here:
http://www.raho.com/ServArt.asp?ServArtID=2
Another condition that may develop from trauma is a discolored tooth. Not only is this a serious condition, but it can also prove to be painful for your pet. Traumatized teeth can take on various colors. The color of the tooth indicates the severity of the problem. Pink or purple teeth indicate pulpitis, or an inflammation of the pulp tissue. If treated promptly this tooth may recover and return to its normal color. If left unchecked, the pulp may continue to swell, thus strangling itself inside the tooth. Ultimately, the tooth will die and take on a grayish tone. This tooth may remain in the mouth for a long period of time without complications or it may abscess immediately, making extraction necessary.
My vet is closed weekends, the emergency vet opens at 12 noon so I'm gonna take him there and have him checked out. Ugh. Poor doggy. Figured I'd post this here in case someone else ever has that issue!

I have no clue, I was a little confused myself, they are under the impression that normal vets are open saturday mornings... they are open from noon Saturday till 730am Monday... go figure.

Oh, wait. I forgot; you live in the South <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />. No one is EVER in a hurry! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> We Northerners are all hustle and bustle <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />. The place Widge went is open 24/7, which was very convenient-I wish there were more like this! Hope Cujo's care is as good and he's back to normal ASAP.

OK does anyone know what I can give my dog? Antibiotics/Anti-inflamatory type stuff? According to the info I read online if I do something about it now then I can prevent further problems, but the emergency vet was just about useless and told me to see my regular vet on Monday... they saved me $85 by bringing Cujo TO the Dr, apparently the second the Dr steps into the room I get charged $85... the Dr looked at it and said that he can't do anything for Cujo so it'd be a waste of $85 to talk him directly. Go figure....
So I was told 1 of 3 things will happen...
1. It looks like a "bruise" and it'll heal n go away on its own.
2. It'll heal but stay purple for the rest of my dogs life <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
3. The tooth will die and will have to get removed and replaced by a canine dentist.
I'm trying to find a canine dentist that works Saturdays -- I wish there was something I could give him to at least increase the odds of it not being a big deal.

Oh, how frustrating......I am looking everywhere I can as fast as I can, but am getting all the same answer: get him to a dentist immediately.
I would even call the dentist "emergency cover" numbers.

I found a vet thats open today who'll see him at 3pm -- I believe they do dental work too, to some extent anyway, I know a guy who's JRT had to get his puppy teeth removed because they stayed in after the adult teeth had come thru n he went to this vet.
We'll see what they say, I don't particularly care to put my boy thru the surgery to replace a tooth just because one vet said "hey yeah we can't do anything, just wait it out".

You'll post what happens, right?
Good luck, Mike and Cujo!
