Which do you think works better? Any side effects noted from either one? I live in the northeast where ticks are prevelant and we take our 7 month old Dobie hiking a lot. Any advice or comments would be appreciated.
My dog has sensitive skin and allergy problems. We have used K-9 Advantix for two years now with no problems. It does a real good job on fleas and I have found a few ticks, one dead, the other dying on her last summer. I haven't used Frontline so I can't say how well it works although it uses different chemicals.
Now using advantix as vet no longer carries plus. Works well but still don't like the slick on the back for several days. Just coming into the season so we will really see what it does
I use the frontline plus & have never had any problems with it. I find it very effective & I have my dogs in fields with tall grasses, woods, sand etc. I doesn't repel misquitoes, though, as I think the advantix is supposed to do. But I don't know how really effective that is anyway. I suppliment my dogs with garlic that also helps repel fleas & misquitoes as well as support connective tissue.
I also forgot to add that you can order the frontline plus from the vet supply catalogs or purchase at the local pet supply wharehouse like Petco, etc. if your vet doesn't carry it. You do not need a vet 'ok' or RX for it like you do the heartwork products.
Laura:
I live in CT also. My veterinarian recommended that I switch to K9 Advantix from Frontline Plus because he felt FLP didn't work as well. This year is the first year I'll be using K9 Advantix, so time will tell. I have always used FL or FLP (religiously!). I've found live, imbedded and blood-swollen ticks on all four of our dogs when we used it. Two of our dogs tested Lyme positive last year (no symptoms though). We've noted no side effects from either product. I know this is all anecdotal info, but I hope it helps.
