I brought one of these puppies. Would you mind taking a look and let me know what you think?
http://www.banffyhaus.com/gabi.html
I know I should have asked for opinions before buying the puppy, but I didn’t know about this forum.
The pedigrees are written in what I guess is German and I can’t read a word of it. But I would like to know what I can possibly expect.
Thank you in advance for your help .

I know little about show lines, but I am always even more concerned about their hips than working lines. On the upside, Gabi's out of two a-stamped dogs. I don't know if you even care, but I only saw one IPO 1, so I hope you don't have high hopes for sport or personal protection or anything along those lines. He/she may not have what it takes. However, surprises happen, and this dog may be exactly what you're looking for in a pet. The price is reasonable provided everything they state about the situation is true. When do you get your pup?

Jenni,
What do you mean by " but I am always even more concerned about their hips than working lines."?
Is it a fact or you are just making an assumtion based on their arched shaped body?
Every kind of dog is not for everyone. Lot of people won't be able to handle working bloodline dogs for obvious reason. Showline dogs may not have the same level of working ability but I think these dogs alert an intruder and do basic Protection. Correct?
People keep talking about Alex Beyer- GREAT HELPER...If I am not mistaken his Kennel has Showbloodline dogs.

Jenni: Thanks for your reply. I spent several years looking for a GSD. And while it is Ed’s shepherds that started my interest in GSD, I really feel like his dogs would be too much for me to handle. This is my 1st GSD. I want to start with a stable tempered puppy that I do not have to be a professional to train. I don’t know if I would be interested in protection or anything along those lines. I don’t have the experience to evaluate a puppy for that and I have not been able to locate any reputable trainer anywhere near me. That is why this forum is so helpful. I see lots of experience here. The puppy is about 4 wks old. The breeder ships them out once they are 8 wks old.
Rashmi: Thank you for your reply also. I agree that someone just starting with a GSD may not be able to handle a working line. I want to start off slow—but not with a timebomb!
Thanks to everyone else for their help as well. I really appreciate all your information.

Congrats and have fun with your new pup!
Rashmi-I say that because it seems that show or pet breeders are sometimes not as concerned with the hips of their breeding stock because they really don't have to prove themselves, like working dogs. If their clients are not going to OFA at 12-24mos like most of us do, they may be less likely to disclose actual hip ratings and show xrays. Some very sloped dogs are ok; others really can be crippled. Like in all things; it depends. ANY dog can end up with bad hips, but I hate the stories about people who knew nothing about what to look for/ask about ending up with crippled 9mo old dogs.

the pedigree on gaby is in czech or hungarian. the german dogs that can be read are show lines. some of these are very good dogs, but they are a ways back in the pedigree; i don't know any of the dogs in front...sorry.

MEOE is the Hungarian Show club, similar to AKC.
A stamping in Hungary is very strict.

Is this a good thing?
Please excuse my lack of knowledge. Like I said, this is my 1st GSD and I really trying to figure all of this out. It can be a bit complicated at first .
Thanks to everyone for your help. You are definitely helping me get a better understanding of the dog's lineage.
