Is it possible for a neutered dog and a spayed dog to mate or is their urge to mate taken away when spayed/neutered. The reason why I ask is because my sister-in-law’s visited us last week and brought her spayed female dog. They had free range of the house when everyone was asleep. On the last day of her visit her dog’s was leaving wet spots wherever she was lying. We thought she might have just been grooming herself but upon closer inspection, her vagina was secreting a clear, almost watery liquid.
I have a 22 month old male GSD who was neutered at 6 months. At the time of procedure he only had one testicle that had dropped. During the operation, my vet looked for the other testicle but didn’t find anything. Could he have a functioning undescended testicle that the vet couldn’t find that is giving him the urge to mate?
We spoke to my sister-in-law later that week and she said her dog wasn’t leaving wet spots in her car on their trip back home or later on in the week. Could she just have been “excited” buy our dog? I mean he is a handsome guy <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!
I wouldn’t think that spayed/neutered dogs would have the desire to mate. Somebody please tell me if I’m wrong.
I'm sure I read on a previous thread that neutered males can and will mate with unspayed females, but I'm not sure about spayed females. I would think they would not let the males try, but the experts here will tell us more.
My experince has been that mature, neutered males will mate with an in heat female. Young males never get it right......spayed females wont let the male try to mate.
Both of my Dobes mated with spayed females. Cato was neutered very young before he had any, ummm "experience". Odin wasn't neutered until he developed prostatitis at about 6 years of age. Both of them would have a go with the two spayed girls.
You know being the new person on the block, and not much of an understanding how all works in this forum situation this forum is a good place to be. I always wondered the relatioship between my Old Lab an a Deer Hound that became to be part of my life. The deer hound was spayed, but they had a love affair that went on for years. It just wasn't the affection they showed to one another, but they actually tied up. The little hussie promoted it. She put it in His face every chance she had. When He passed away last year, that old hound dog almost grieved herself to death. Alright, she now sleeps in my bed, and she is so gratefull for a friend and companionship. You know as much as we want to think we have the answers or even the knowledge of this complex world, the simplist gift of one of God's most faithfull creatures, will show love, and give love, no matter what man has taken away. They don't understand we do things for there well being, how could they. They still love. An old hound, an not so old LAB, can still teach us, love is unconditional.
