Sure there's a market. Some people are not "into" dogs or dog training but recognize the benifits of having a well trained estate guardian or personal protection dog. Many people can afford $50k for what they see as added safety for themselves, their family and their property. A different question is are they getting what they pay for? In this case I doubt it. The best defense dogs are those that are raised and traied within the family. Then again if the dog ends up thwarting an attack and foiling a would be kidnapping, home invasion, murder etc., which a lot of trained adults are capable of, it's worth a lot more to that individual I would imagine.
There is suckers born every minute!!
After looking at the site, I see dogs mostly in the 30grand plus range and no where on the site does it even say anything about guaranteeing the health or xrays. 40K for a dog and it doesn't even come with hip x-rays, AND it's a GSD! how obvious who they are targeting the rich with money to burn and women going through times in their lives where they are scared to the point of paying for this 24hr a day security guard, one who from what I seen bites a dude with a schutzhund sleeve and scratch pants FRAUD IN MY BOOK
Chris, something you don't understand. The dogs are delivered in a $39,900 car. You get to keep the car.
I read somewhere (before I owned a dog) that a particular celebrity paid $50k for her protection dog. One of the functions of this dog was to do a run through of the entire house to look for intruders. Now that I know more, I was wondering if this person paid so much because of her celebrity status. Until today, I have never seen that kind of price tag for a dog.
My observation here is that most of the dogs shown on the sale pages are shown in a seated position (rather than stacked) and there is no mention anywhere on pedigree or even registration for that mater, and of course there is no mention of guarantee (not that thier isn't one its just not discussed anywhere on his site) but as was already mentioned elsewhere on this thread.
A few of the dogs listed mention thier having been involved in high level competition (ie: "World Seiger in Germany") and having been shown successfully in 'conformation'. So I'm guessing thier program is based largely on showline dogs....
Pfft...This guy has been famous for jumping on whatever band wagon brings the most money at the moment in dogs for 20ish years now.
He advertised heavy in the various "survivalist" magazines in the 1980's with his Timber Wolf/ GSD mixes that were all hype. The articles written about his "dogs" in those magazines were just....sad.
So now he's on the ppd band wagon, no surprise there. It's not like the guy is ever going to compete or do anything to prove the caliber of his dogs.
And there will always be suckers that don't do any home work before over-spending on a gimmick.
There's a sucker born every minute, and a someone to sell that sucker an over-hyped and over-priced item.
Watching the video was kinda painful from a professional standpoint. I have to ask myself, are their trainers really so novice that they have the dog sit and the *trainer* adjusts her position instead of the dog? ( I yell at my basic students for that bad bit of handling all the time, why oh why would it be shown on a video to sell a dog? Can't people see how amateurish that is? )
And do their helpers fall down on purpose to make the dogs look "powerful", or are they just clumsy? < roll eyes >
