I hope someone can help me understand how fat pockets develop on dogs. My mother has a 12 year old mutt that has maybe 5-6 fat pockets on her body. Some of these pockets are the size of tennis balls. The vet told her there is nothing she could do unless she wanted to take them off with surgery. The fat pockets dont harm her. What they do is add to her weight and cause her to walk bow legged since some are between her legs. You can actually grab the pockets and move them around. She has a hard time getting up and doesnt move too much. I tried to get my mom to switch to a raw diet but I dont think she is convinced. Does anyone know if a switch to raw food will help her rid the fat pockets with the right amount of exercise? Is the vet correct that there is nothing she can do to help this dog?
Have these "fat pockets" grown rapidly ? Rarely, liposarcomas, the malignant form of lipoma can have a similar presentation. It seems however, that they are benign.
Yes they are benign. The vet did have it tested. I was just hoping for a way to get rid of them. I guess its just something that my mom and her dog is going to have to live with. Thanks for the info.
