Hi Folks,
I am very new to the Schutzhund world and am really just beginning my own personal path into this world. Can some of the folks on the board talk a bit about the advantages of being a member of a Schutzhund club? Of course I can see some of the obvious things, like folks who are like minded, with any luck some one who has already titled a dog and has been there and done that so to speak. Of course having a good decoy for the protection part is a very big plus. Can others who may be members of a club tell me more than what I have kind of already figured out on my own. My dog is currently 18 weeks old and is a German import, he has a ton of prey drive and I believe he would be a very good working dog. Of course with that said I am no Ed or Will so what I can see is what I understand from working through many of Ed's DVD and the like. So here is a newbee question for those of you who have already been there and done that. I do have access to a local club and they charge $100.00 a month for membership. I really do not see that as a lot of money on a per month bases but also was wondering what are the advatages to being a member of a club. As a side note, if I am not going to be breeding what does a Sch title do for my dog, other than allow me and him to really bond ( which I believe is VERY IMPORTANT). Thanks to all who will take the time to help a newbee understand the pluses and maybe as well as some of the minuses of being a member of a local Sch club. My current pup is to train me as much as it is to train him... LOL
Thx,
Jay

This topic has been discussed in detail in previous threads - you may want to review those conversations using the "Search" function.

Hi Will,
Well I figured that this had been discussed in the past, so the very first thing I did was search for that, perhaps I am searching the wrong way :-(. Any helpful hints on what I may search for, I have gone to the main search engine and type Schutzhund club, but get no matches (going back 2 years, found that hard to believe), then of course the board tells me to wait to search again. I did get a hits when searching the general board but they did not cover this topic.. Heck I am in the computer feild and can not find that.. Any help hints?
Thx,
Jay

This thread called "Why Schutzhund? Why not?" was interesting to me:

I know there are many more I've read, but I had this one bookmarked.

Connie,
Thanks that was a great start for sure, guess it is about time for me to go and check out my local club :-). I know Max is a long way from being ready for that, but want to do my home work first, after all I owe him that :-). My wife and I started our home work early and it seems like that work is growing and growing.
Thanks Again!!
Jay

I have to agree about the Search on this board. I used to be a web designer, I know a little scripting and basic programming, I am fluent in Windows, Mac and Linux, have built my own computer, and I work as a computer animation artist and have been using computers since the early 80s and I can NEVER find anything in the search. Call me stupid if you want.

I had a sticky that was at the start of every forum on the way to use the "Search" function but it's not up anymore......must have gotten lost when the forum was transfered to the new server. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

<img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I usedta could NEVER find stuff here, either, until I realized three biggies: The date range, which I now reset to a couple of years (or whatever, depending on whether it's a date-specific topic); the "search all forums" choice, so as not to narrow to the forum I had been on when I clicked "search," and putting quotes around the words I really wanted to show up.
Ta-da! <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Hey! I think it would be a great idea to put that topic under the Administration section, "How to Use the Search Feature". I bet most people are unaware of those tricks for better searches.
