Hey everyone,
I am almost finished reading Cesar's book. It is excellent.
There are photographs of some of the dogs (including Daddy the rapper Redman's pit bull. This is the one that went to Oprah's home to help with the Cocker Spaniel, Sophie.) He has pictures of the different states/moods of dogs: fear, dominance et cetera.
I like the book so far. Frankly, I have not been able to put it down. He speaks about his life and how he came to America. His love, respect and understanding for dogs is evident.
I consider myself a novice dog trainer. Those of you who are experienced are better able to give opinions/advice on the training aspects of this book.
Have a great day!
By the way, the whole country (USA) is in the 90 and above range temperature wise. Everyone please be careful and stay hydrated!

Here's a long thread about the book, which you might like to see. I loved it too, btw!

P.S. It's not in the 90s here, right on the very drop-off edge of the Monterey Bay......... but it is supposed to soar into the 77-80 range.

I bought Cesar's book after reading through the first thread about it. Loved it and thought it an excellent addition to anyone's canine library.
P.S. It's in the 100's here.

HI,
I am almost finished with the book.
I went out and purchased the DVD's. (I don't have cable.) I have learned something from each episode.
So far, I have enjoyed the following episodes the most: NuNu (the killer Chihuahua), the Bouvier that went out and learned to herd and Emily the spoiled Pit Bull.
The episode on Emily was an excellent episode that dealt with an owner who really had no business owning a dominant breed (PIT BULL).
I wished they had included updates on the DVD. I didn't think they were up to the task of handling the Emily.
Oh, the episode on the GSD that chased his tail was interesting. I couldn't believe it when the owner she said she walked the dog once or twice a week! A WORKING breed? If I were the dog I would be chasing my tail and anything else to keep me occupied.

I am about halfway through with the book, I just purchased it the other day when I was tracking down "Puppy Training" books in the local book store. I'm an avid reader.. this book has made me laugh, giggle and cry with a few stories. It's great .. =0) I was just going to post about this too tonight. =0)

Yes, "Emily" is a famous episode. It was the first episode where one dog took the whole program (back when he did half-hour episodes), and it was the one in which he used the choke --- really used it. Anyone who saw that episode would agree that it was necessary (and successful), I think.
Emily was updated. In fact, it aired just last night. When you get the 2006 episodes on DVD (and they are even better than the 2004 season, IMO), you'll see it.

If you read my first post you can tell I'm pretty green to dog training so my opinion doesn't have alot of weight behind it. I read Cesar's Way and The Dog's Mind when I first started getting serious about learning to train my dogs. Both books really informed me on how a dog should be treated within a family and how they see their world. What I think is funny about Cesar's book is that most pet dog forums seem to be filled with alot of negative comments about him, but alot of people on training forums like him. I loved the book and gave it to one of my friends who just bought a dog.

Hi,
I wasn't sure which episode had the "forced nap". I am glad to know it was the "Emily" episode. I am going to watch all of them again. (It seems s though everyone in my family needed my attention while I was watching.)
Another note, disc 4 contains additional footage. There is unedited footage of him skating with the dogs and with Jordan the bulldog.
I find Cesar's information to be on point. It is clear that he loves and respects dogs. I suspect that anyone who is very critical of his all his methods probably have out of control dog.
One more thing, he gives credit to many other trainers and makes mention that other trainers (before him) use them.
