I have a 6-month-old German Shepherd that piddles almost every single time he is interacted with. I am not talking just a few drops, I'm talking this dog literally just starts urinating whenever he is being petted, let out, let in, put in the car, having a lead clipped to his collar, etc., etc.
He is completely housebroke, crate trained and fully trained in basic obedience. This dog obeys basic commands like a robot and will do 60 to 90 minute down stays any time he is asked to. (Although he has extreme difficulty with the "come" command, he just won't do it unless I get down on a knee and speak in an exaggerated tone of praise.)
He is always treated extremely well. He has never been traumatized. He is never over stimulated. He is an extremely well bred dog with an outstanding pedigree (son of VA4 Pakros d`Ulmental) and has a calm, social and gentlemanly disposition. He is an exteremely happy dog with virtually no behavior problems except this one.
I am at an absolute loss for an explanation for this piddling behavior.
Will he grow out of this? (He is already 6 months old.)
Anyone here have a similar experience?
Thanks in advance for any replies and advice.

I would immediately think "urinary tract infection" and call the vet.

Hallo.. well 6 mos puppy knowing all these 60-90 min down stay? wow.. that is some pressure right there. What are you describing is very common.. I have never seen stable puppy doing so much obedience at this age.
I would call vet and ask about UTI, but it just seems that this puppy is scared to death...
DO not chew me for that.. I put a lot of good pressure on my dog, he is harder to handle, but even that doesnt make me put my, not even 9 mos old pup to 90 min down stay. 2 minutes and he goes crazy..

Like I described in my post, this dog is exteremely happy and well balanced. He literally thrives on being asked to work. Keep in mind, I am very judicious in the frequency that I work him so as not to subject him to undue pressure. However, when he does work, he loves it.
His extended down stays might be extordinary for his age, but believe me when I tell you, he literally does it with joy and never ever complains, challanges or gets agitated in any way.
You might want to demand a little more working discipline from your 9 month old, If he is a well bred GSD, he will in all likelyhood be happy to give it to you!
And as for being scared to death, nothing could be farther from the truth. This GSD exhibits the highest degree of respect for me as I do to him. The bond is extremely strong and both of us are able to read each other like a book.

He literally thrives on being asked to work......
Except the recall?
I'm not being nasty. This is the number-one command....... the most important, and the one that can mean life or death.
And if it's not submissive urination, it probably is a UTI. These are painful, and can reach the kidneys (for *real* problems) if untreated.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Michael with all due respect... I have never seen a puppy that does what you describe within certain reason.
My dog gives me as much obedience as I ask, my puppy is pretty well bread a bit defencive little sucker, but nice well balanced happy easy going puppy. I am not offending you nor try to do that.. but how would you like a 2 year old kid cleaning your bathroom floor? I do not think that would be such a great job.. Try to set slower pace, give that puppy some not training time..
Well heck.. I tried to give you diferrent prospective.. 6 mos old dog IMO. is way too young for even half of the things you describe. HE is in Show me fase. IMO

I have been reading in this discussion forum for some time now, and finally decided to join because I was so impresssed with the quality of interaction that I observed.
Well, my first interaction with you guys has not disappointed me. IMHO, this is the very best board for anyone who loves dogs. Thanks for all of the excellent replies to my query. Any more will be greatly appreciated.
I think I will talk to Nico's breeder about this issue tonight when I visit her kennel.
Again, you guys are the best!
