I'm not 100% sure if this is the correct forum but if a mod knows a better place please let me know.
I am having a terrible mosquito problem around my house (actually bought a bat house hoping they will find it, move in and kill the mosquitos) But in the mean time is there anything that is pet safe that will keep the damn things off my pup and adult dog? I dont want to use human bug products like OFF because dogs always lick themselves and I know that stuff is harmful. At the same time I hate me and them being a prisoner in our own house (cant exercise them/train them enough in the house or take them for walks) Anything you guys and gals know of please post up!
I have the exact same problem but with ants, they are eating the poor dog alive. I feed my dog in the patio, and at one point he was only eating about half his food, my wife noticed that the problem was that two minutes after she put his bowl down it would be swarming with ants, so while he was eating his kibble, the ants were eating him with a side of kibble. the lower part of his jaw and his dewlap are FULL of sting marks.
I've been looking all over the place but I haven't found anything that someone can actually recommend. I'm having my yard sprayed tomorrow, and I have already gone over the patio and such, so it's not THAT bad, now at least he can eat quietly. The thing is I spray a nest one day and the next day there's a new one, it's impossible to keep up.
THIS stuff is what I use for ants and it works GREAT!! make a line around whatever you want to protect and watch them die or run off. I use it on the outside of the fence so the dogs cant get to it and have not had one problem since. You can also try an old Southern trick and get real uncooked grits and when they eat it it expands in their stomachs and they die. (carefull not to let the dog get into it in large quantities though)
Edit* also make sure you and your wife pick up any leftovers so they are not drawn to the food particles.
The only product I have heard of is K9 Advantix, this is a monthly treatment that keeps fleas, ticks and mosquitoes off your dogs. I have never used it myself because it should not be used near cats, but other people seem to like it. I am not certain about the age guidelines for it, but I'm sure you can find that out online. hth

There are products on the market specifically for dogs.
Here's a link to just one product web page
We're having problems with mosquitos here too. Not at home, the guy behind me has a bat house, works miracles with keeping the mosquito population down around the house.
But, on walks I do put a bit of lotion on Tucker, just a bit on his ears and on his legs, when we come back I make sure to wipe his legs down with a wash cloth and warm water...i haven't had a problem with him getting ill. I am not sure how old your pup is, i know there's restrictions on age and when you can use products like that.
Thanks you guys/gals. I dont remember the mosquitos being this bad in PA last year.

I have been using frontline as I heard that was the best but as you know it does nothing for mosquitos so I might have to make the switch. Just hope it works as well on fleas and ticks
Zodiac makes a bug repellent wipe for dogs. I haven't used it myself, but I know a person who uses them and thinks they're great. He says one wipe down the dog' back lasts for 2 days.
