Due to my girlfriends obsession with this show on Bravo, I have been forced to watch it lately.
Well the other day her rescue dog chewed a 1ft by 1ft hole in her $20,000 sofa, poops in the house, and refuses to come to her. So she hires a dog trainer. OH...MY...Lord. This woman came to her house and literally suggested that when she wants her dog to come to her, to lay on the ground and act like a dead beatle. OR...her other option (which she ends up doing!) is to dress up in a rat costume with toy guns and scare the dog into running back into the house.
Umm, I was speachless for 5 minutes. What do you say, how does...I dunno. Unbelievable. So I think if any of the dog trainers on here wanna move out to LA, they could make some serious bucks because clearly, the competition out there isn't too stiff.
Have these people ever heard of collars, crates, and leashes?
...and the training has started |

Isn't Kathy Griffin a stand-up comedian? <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Jeff, When I see trainers like that, I wonder about the mental status of those that hire them. Sometimes I think the stranger the gimick the more desirable they are to the Hollywood set (whith the exception of Cesar, who I think highly of).

Mr. Hines,
Uh... About the rat costume... Um... I mean, how much can it hurt? Now, the toy guns... That's just silly.

This is frightening - but check out the Petco scandal on http://www.cnn.com. Some idiot allowed an off hours Petco employee to "exorcise" her GSD pup and it died after an hour of torture. THEN a local rescue group allowed her to adopt another! I don't know who's worse: the Petco person, the idiot owner or the shelter. Can someone please put these people out of the dog training business?

That dog trainer CRACKED ME UP! And the fact she could talk people into some of her methods was even more of a riot. Hey, the dog did come when the trainer called! <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
But I know I'm not planning on dressing up like a big rat, with a toy gun, and stalking my dogs in the yard any time soon!

Hey, this is California, right? They wouldn't want to employ such barbarous methods! Might damage the dog's self-esteem or chacra or "inner dog-ness" or something.

It's a biiiiig state, and it's mostly NOT L.A. (Even L.A. is mostly not "L.A.")

Let's hope Leerburg will produce a DVD featuring Ed Frawley demonstrating the rat costume technique.
You need to sit back in your garden, sip a whiskey, smoke a cigar and THINK about your dog training. |
