ok, this is really more of a curiosity question.
Now, I had always heard that dogs couldn't see the images on tv..which i believed to be true because every other dog i had couldn't give a rats patootie about what was on tv.
But Tucker on the other hand...seems to be able to see the images perfectly and can even distinguish between 2 legged and four legged charachters..be it a cartoon or a regular tv show.
I have even tested this with him by turning the sound off and seeing if he reacts to the images..and he does, every single time.
I can be a dog, zebra, elephant anything...he whines and goes up to the tv....when the scene changes and the animal is no longer there, he walks away. I do not react when he does this, just in case anyone thinks he's reading my body language or anything.
Does anyone else's dog do this???
He is part border collie, and I know they are sight dogs..but I didn't think his sight would be good enough to be able to distinguish between 2 legged and four legged images on the screen.
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

My dog only watches Cesar Milan. I think he's decided no other show seems to be worth the effort of lifting his head off the floor!

Mine does. Seems to be particularly interested in full-body profiles of dogs on dog shows.

my dog watches just about everything, though of course animal planet and cesar millan seem to hold his interest the best. but he has warned us when the mafia was breaking into the bedroom (the godfather), and he loves to watch baseball with my husband.
it's evidently hereditary. both his mom and grandma watched tv all the time.

Funny to actually get to comment on this.My 3yr.old GSD CAN see the TV.As a pup while I was at work I would leave Animal Planet on for him in the same room his crate was in just so he wouldn't feel alone(silly I know) but now whenever an animal-especially dogs are on the TV I have to watch him as he will dart at the screen.I have a big screen TV and this happens on an almost daily basis.I watch him watching the TV and he actually follows the dog across the screen so I have no doubt that he can see something.Other animals on the screen don't faze him that much, but when a dogs on there I'm afraid he might one day damage my TV.My 9mos.old GSD hasn't been exposed to this so he really has no interest in the tube. But its a funny picture when were watching a dog based movie or something like that and seeing him lying in front of us almost following right along.I'm waiting to come home one day and find him on the couch with remote in paw

anything with horses gets my dog's undivided attention, things with dogs get his eye too, but not as much. My old dog howled at the sound of sirens, and got really angry with the MGM lion, which by the way, scared the living crap out of my cat the day I installed the surround.

My dogs both intently watched the Ivan tapes...maybe they like his voice. I was worried that they understood the tapes better than I did

I have only had one dog that seemed interested in tv. She had a a particular interest in herding animals. Wildebeast, horses, sheep, anything in a herd she seemed fascinated by. Anything else, she couldn't have cared less.

That's hilarious! My 4 month old GSD watches Ceasar Milan too! He will stare at the TV for the show. (funny - he looks away during commercials). He gets so focused when watching it, he pretty much tunes out everything else. I was amazed!
