I have been feeding my almost 2 year old and my 4 month old GSDs Nature's Variety brand food for about 7 months. I Would feed kibble in the morning, and raw in the evening. Their stools were runny at the beginning so I stuck it out thinking as they get uesd to the food it would change. This brand allows for flexibility on changing the proteins in the kibble (chicken, beef, lamb, venison, rabbit etc) I have found the only 2 they can tolerate is the lamb and the beef. I eventually stopped the raw (I know, I know) and now just feed the kibble to see if sticking to one formula would change the soft stools and frequency... 4 or 5 times a day! When I was feeding my first dog for the first year she was on Pro Plan, never a soft stool and only once a day. But after joining this board and doing all the reasearch, with a reccomendation from several specialty stores in my area I swiched to Nature's Variety, and this is where I stand now. My sister had her dog on Solid Gold, with no stool problems but her dog suffered lifelong skin allergies so I (still new to NVariety) told her to try it. And then her dog had the same stool problems for a bout 3 mo! So now she is back on Solid Gold. Should I try the switch? And if so which one??? Solid Gold seems to be the next reccomended around here (all my friends and other stores) Feeding all raw for me is not in my options right now, but I do give occasional knuckles and necks. Innova, Canidae and Nutro is not highly reccomended. So far Solid Gold seems to be. Anyone here tried either? Thanks for any input.
Sorry, when I said not highly reccomended I meant by some local dealers, and friends. Everybody and everydog is different. Mostly I guess for stool/allergy issues. I am not quoting, just general opinion I get around here is Solid Gold. My dogs do not yet show any allergy issues (hopefully never) but female is very picky will not eat raw other than meaty bone occasionally. I will check out the link, but curious if this is norm for Nature's Variety brand or if it just my (and my sister's) dog.
