Elgos was probably the most influential male malinois in the last 10 years. In his last years he was considered by many to be a 'Living Legend' having produced many world-class Ring, IPO & Police Dogs. I believe he was born around 1990 and lived to be nearly 14 years old.
He was of French breeding and was titled French Ring 3, Mondio Ring 3 and Belgian Ring 1. He competed at the Mondio Ring WK in the early 1990's. It takes many dogs their entire working career to earn the Category 1 in Belgian Ring, so to do this in addition to FR & MR is a real testament, not only to his handler, but to the dog.
He is seen mostly in IPO & French Ring breedings, some in KNPV and to a lesser extent in Belgian Ring as he was a French Dog.
Yes this is the correct pedigree. A friend of mine owned this dog and in fact gave Cindy and I a female from one of his last litters after a visit to his home in Belgium. We still have Area here with us, we breed her. She has more drive than 5 dogs and is not dog aggressive (which I love)
I was lucky enough to have filmed Elgos's grandfather (G'Bibber )in 1988 in one of the first Mondio Ring Championships in Toruni Belgium. G'Bibber is featured in my DVD on this event This was a GREAT DOG - a truely amazing dog. In fact I went to his owners home and filmed some of his puppies after the competition. Here is a link to that DVD http://www.leerburg.com/512.htm
My pup's Pedigree has Elgos from his Dam's side.. A bit "back"... But he really is a fireball.. I really like "Nitro" from Cindy's site Kaiserhaus.com ...wish I could have a pup from him.. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I have had the luck to work with a number of Elgos sons in police work.
One of his last is handled by a good friend and has done extremely well in police competitions such as the annual one in Las Vegas and the one in Tucson.
I had seen Elgos as an older dog and many many of his pups (as most people into working Mali's in the last 10 years have). He was known for huge grips and trainability. Often people have seen him as a producer of "sport" dogs and not so much a producer of police dogs. I have found that I like his sons for police work, but i also like tractible dogs with great nerves.
Elgos pedigree is often a thing of conjecture as it is pretty well known to not be the one on his paperwork.
No matter he is definatly the top producer of working dogs among mal's in the last decade. He will appear in pedigrees of virtually all mals at some point.
He may be the Bernd Leerberg of the malinois.
