I've listened to Ed's podcast on puppy ground work and I agree with him. That's more or less the way I've handled previous dogs that I've had. What's changed is that I now have an eight year old daughter. I am about to get a Mal pup that I plan to work. My question is should I allow my daughter to do some of dominant behaviour outlined in the podcast to establish that she is above the dog, or will her small size/young age cause the dog to challenge her position?
8 year old children should never be involved with training dominance issues in any dog. In fact 8 year old children should not be unattended when they train any dog. I suggest that you get the puppy and/or obedience dvds.
