I have a 2 year old male that I have raised from a puppy who I am going to give away to a working home.
Andros "Grenz" vom Schwarzeis is a cool dog. He has no temperament or health issues. He is not a bum dog, or a washout dog. He has been a part of my family for the last two years. He is crate trained, housebroken, socialized with dogs and humans. He has had very little obedience training, but up to about 7 months ago he was doing routine foundation bitework and tracking.
He is not a hard dog or a very tough dog. For these reasons he needs to go to a different handler. I have stopped working with him and he has lived as a housedog for the last 7 months or so. This is not the life he was born for, he needs to be worked. He needs to go to a trainer that will appreciate his qualities and personality.
Grenz has low ball drive, but he has good drive to bite/tug/chase and excellent scenting drives. He is naturally protective of his territory and has an incredible deep, ugly, scary bark. He has a bit of a defensive edge that I like, but is not a sharp dog at all.
If there is a handler out there who wants to do club level sport work, or SAR, or who needs a good social family protection dog, Grenz is your boy.
I'm not charging an adoption fee, he is free to the right working home.
Love to have him but I'm already in Dutch with my wife about my two Czech/DDRs <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
He may mean that he is a soft dog or a handler sensitive dog. One that only needs mild corrections when corrections are required ie, a level 3,4 or 5 correction & not a level 10 for major infractions. Or he may mean something else entirely. JMO
Grenz is not a hard dog, meaning it doesn't take much to correct him. I wouldn't call him a soft dog either, but it doesn't take a hard correction to affect him. Generally, a harsh verbal correction will get a good reaction out of him for day to day things. If he is in drive, he requires a medium level leash correction or low level stim on an e-collar. Hard corrections shut him down.
I have a dominant personality, you might even say I have an overbearing personality. I intimidate him and I don't want a dog that is that senstive.
Great dog for light handed trainers, or trainers that are tired of fighting with hard dogs. LOL
I wish I didn't have 3 dogs already. He sounds a lot like Boris (his half brother). Boris is a great dog for me. Handler sensitive dogs aren't for everyone but it is not necessarily a bad thing.
