Dumb question but my club is pulling our hair out over where to practice tracking. We don't want to drive out to the desert twice a week! Anything near Orange County that anyone knows about? We're at a point where we might trespass if we find some place tempting <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Thanks.

Well, my club rents a field with a shed on it from a local farmer. It's perfect for us. Do you have farms near you?
Actually Matt the only thing we do on-site at west coast is maybe articles.
Since I'm tracking every other day getting ready for trial.....
we primarily make the drive out to Perris, CA. Lots of fields off ramona expressway and the exit past that. I forget the name of the exit. Drive that area and you find lots of stuff. And some of the sod farms are pretty nice about not kicking us off if we wave, smile, and tell them "no holes"
Ramona is a drive and I really hate the 215 interchange. So I go there with the club once or twice a week (we meet on sundays in perris).
There's also a historic dairy district (supposedly) thats off the 15 or 60 ....not sure which. I think the 60 freeway. Someone told me there is lots of tracking out there. I haven't made the effort to google it yet.
I'm also going this weekend to scope out Prado Regional Park which I hear has some excellent grass and plowed dirt. I'll let you know what I find but several people have told me about tracking there and Long Beach's trial will be there.
There's also two fields if your going 10 E .... one behind pharoahs kingdom which is pretty much mucked with crosstracks since I go there every other day. Not much left to track there unless they replow or if you hike into the center of the field. Also a field on the righthand side if you exit Bryn Mawr I think and go right ...you'll see the field from the freeway. I just haven't figured out how to get to the field yet.
Um yeah, thats a big start. Not sure how far OC is from all that since I live in Fontana, everything is pretty much 1/2 hour drive for me. Good luck, I'll let you know about Prado!

Dana,
Thanks for the info. I knew if we head out east that we could find something but I was trying to avoid that drive. Prado sounds promising, I'll give it a try. Thanks a bunch!
Lynn
In Orange, you might want to try Irvine Regional Park- it is $5 to go in, and gets VERY busy with parties on the weekends, but if you go in EARLY in the morning, the grass is nice with dew. It is at the Eastern end of Jamboree- the road curves and ends at the park.
There is also Carbon Canyon Park in Brea, also a $5 fee to get in, but VERY nice, lush grass. Again, morning is best.
This park has more rolling slopes than Irvine, so make sure you take scent into consideration when you go.
If you're looking for dirt, other than Bakersfield right now, beats me. I am in the High Desert and while we have a lot of plowed fields in the area, none of them are very nice. I have HEARD from some people there is some decent dirt tracking in the Riverside area right now.
