I have been working on the training grip and focus exersizes with my 10 month GSD and I am wondering if I should move on to the Preparing for the handler Flinks DVD or not. For the last month, when she has heard something, a leaf move or someone walking by the hedge she stops what she is doing and just stands with her hackles up. No barking or charging, just stops, watches and then after a moment goes back to what she was dooing. My concern is if this is a sign of weak nerves, I don't know that even as a game/exersize biting of a person would be safe to introduce or make bigger problems later. I would be content with her just learning a bark and hold if this is better in the long run. i know it is my fault for not learning more before buying a pup. is this a maturity issue or a character flaw? Any ideas? Would working on competitive heeling and such help with her focus?
In looking at my previous post I wanted to add, when approached by anyone she does not act agressive at all. Since we have small children at home who bring over freinds that are often unpredictable we have raised her to allow others to touch her. i know that she will never be a serious sport dog, but I am in hopes of learning with her so when the time is right and the kids are big enough to understand the no excess handling approach I can start again with a more serious dog. Sice others have read this post and not replied, I'll take that to be a polite answer to my question.
