Can anyone tell me the major differnces between the GSDCA and USA? I understand one is national and the other international but is that the only difference?
Thank you,
Mike
The USA is not affiliated with the AKC and advocates the GSD in the style of the SV (German GSD Breed Club), WUSV (World Union of the GSD) & FCI. The USA maintains a registry for GSDs, but the registry is not recognized by the AKC or the SV.
The GSDCA started a Working Dog Association (GSDCA-WDA) as a vehicle to promote the European-style GSD, but they still fall under the umbrella of the GSDCA & the AKC.
I mean everyone has there prefrences but is there really a disadvantage to being a memeber of a GSDCA/WDA club. I am not saying there isn't, they very well could be the equivelnt to the girls wmca. But how? I am trying to find a club to join now that I live in a place with some clubs to choose from.
Mike,
Honestly, a club's "character" and it's members is far more important than what organization the club belongs to.
I rag on the GSDCA/WDA a lot due to past bad experiences with them, but I'm sure that they likely have some good clubs filled with helpful honest members........somewhere.
If you're just starting out, seek a club that is newbie friendly and willing to help train you - that sounds like a given for a SchH club, but it's not, believe me.
And if you find the right club, make sure that you do *your* part and make the club a better organization for having accepted you. SchH is a small sport, and we need to help new members feel welcome, or else the sport is going to wither on the vine.
Good luck and I hope the sport proves to be a good match for ya! <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Thanks Will,
I understand the charecter of the club is very important. One reason I ask the question is because I went and checked out a GSDCA/WDA club, the people were really nice and I liked the club but almost all the dogs were show dogs, not that thats a bad thing but is that typical of GSDCA/WDA clubs or was it just that club. And do you know if titles earned in a GSDCA/WDA club are reconized by the other main organizations?
Thanks for your help,
Mike
