I should be getting my first GSD pup in eight to nine weeks. I've been doing a lot of online researching, but I'd still like to see how everything I have read is actually applied in the real world. Thus, my interest in Leerburg DVDs.
I plan on training my pup in Schutzhund and maybe a little in protection. My motives are not so much geared toward the excitement of competition and titles, nor my need for real world protection. I just want to give the best training to my dog and bring out the best in him.
Now that you know what I plan to do with the dog, I'll tell you my dilemma: I'm unsure of what DVD I should start with. I have it narrowed down between Your Puppy from 8 Weeks to 8 Months and How to Raise a Working Puppy. The 8 to 8 covers a lot, but seems to be family pet oriented. While the How to Raise a Working Puppy is for the working dog, but doesn't seem to cover as much as the former. Will 8 to 8 be counterproductive for a working dog?
I have both.. the working DVD is geared towards what things you should take into consideration when raising a working pup. Eg. you won't worry too much about manners for a working pup compared to a house pet.
If your goal is schutzhund I would recommend getting the How to Raise a Working Puppy, Training Drive & Focus with Bernard Flinks, and Preparing Your Dog for the Helper with Bernhard Flinks.
