Hi. I'm new to this board. I purchased a gorgeous female german shepherd puppy from the above kennel in Pontchatoula, LA. I have always wanted a real german shepherd dog. We bought our puppy home with the assurance that the papers would be in in about a week or so. That was Sunday. She was listless and spurting diarrhea. I bought her to the vet the next day. She had cocacidia, giordia and some other type of worm. I contacted the owner of the kennel who just kept saying he "didn't understand", but offered to do nothing. The next day my other dog got sick (not sure what she got but I had two spurting and vomiting) and I was so angry I put a stop payment on the check and sent the seller the difference between the purchase price and the vet cost. To this day I have never received any papers and according to AKC, none of the puppies have been registered. I am disgusted. My pup is the spitting image of every well bred German working german shepherd dog I have seen and has the most gorgeous temperament to match.Alas, no papers. The parents are registered (according to AKC)but there is nothing I can do.There is more to this story. Watch out for this kennel in Pontchatoula, LA. I can be contacted at (985) 893-6560 or vvillars@bellsouth.net.
I apologize to Ed. I did not see the part where I had to ask for Ed's clearance on this before posting. What I posted was true, but I leave it up to Ed, as to whether it should stay or not. Sorry.
Valerie,Sorry to here about your ordeal.I too was subject to a not so nice experience with a "reputable" breeder.Unfortunately not much came of it,still got no papers and the breeder has fled to another state. All I can ask is 1. Did you look into this breeder prior to purchase? 2.Was there a contract with health guarantee? From what I understand now I should have never left without the papers(my mistake)_My guess is you probably paid a good buck for your pup as did I.I can now only hope for the best. The contract I have is worthless since I have no way to contact the breeder should anything arise like hip problems etc...So far almost one year later the pup is in good health(a little small) but temperament is excellent and my fingers stay crossed.Do you plan on returning the pup?If so I'm sure there are people on this board who can help direct you to a more reliable breeder.Good luck
P.S. As far as the papers, what plans did you have for this guy? Breeding, competing, service,or pet
Hi Valerie, personally i don't care about papers and all that stuff, but i certainly understand that most people do ( something is promised and not delivered!) but, hopefully the dog will turn out to be the type of dog you were looking for in spite of bad feelings with the breeder. It's all about the quality of the dog not the papers. I know exactly the kind of dog i want my next one to be and it wouldn't matter if he had papers or not. If there's nothing you can do about the papers then think of it another way : you got the important part <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ,
Good luck with your dog,
AL
It's not the papers that are so important; it's the fact that I paid for a papered dog and didn't get one. If I wanted just a pet, I wouldn't have plunked down the big bucks. The other thing is that I would LOVE to know her breeding. She looks like an East german german shepherd dog and I remember he told me her grandfather was famous. So, it would be nice to pore over the pedigree, etc. In addition, it would be nice to know the genetics for health problems, etc. I don't even know exactly when she was born, although the vet said he believes it was around the end of June.
I knew nothing about GSD's when I purchased her and in retrospect I completely lucked out. I know for a fact she is german, not american and she has the calmest temperament. The first time I threw a ball she went after it and bought it back. I have never had a dog that did that. I was thrilled. Her color is gorgeous with really strong pigment and nice, dark eyes. She is just a doll and we get stopped on the street when we walk her. I have been around animals my whole life and have a good eye for quality and she is quality. Her ears came up and stayed up, about two months ago. She takes things in her mouth and just gently holds them. She doesn't "bite". It's amazing. I am totally hooked on this breed now.
I learned after the fact that I should never have left the breeder without at least a bill of sale. I thought the cancelled check would be enough. I have contacted a justice of the peace and we'll see if I can get her papers.
By the way, I ordered Ed's collar, leash and prong collar (also DVD) and am thrilled! They are beautiful.
Papers would be nice for competition. She needs a job. Next time, I'm going through Ed.
