Hey all,I just ordered my first 10lb. bucket of Embark from the Honest Kitchen. Can anyone tell me how long I can expect this to last with 2 GSD's,one 4yr. old and one 1yr. old? Also I've through the articles, and maybe I missed it;but not sure how many times per day to feed. Both dogs currently eat cannidea dry twice a day.Do I continue to feed twice a day the recommended amount or once a day? Thanks for the help

Once or twice is up to you. As far as how long it lasts, they say that each bag rehydrates to just about 4x it's dry weight, but in all honesty, I haven't found that to be true. Keep in mind that it's more nutrient-dense than Canidae, so they should require less. I find less transition issues if you back off the quantity for a while until their stomachs get used to it. It's a great food, but expensive to feed large dogs if you're not adding a significant portion of other meat sources. I would mix it w/raw to keep costs down and make it last longer. Chicken gizzards are a good add-in for large dogs if you don't want to grind, or maybe try some turkey wings/backs and then the THK afterward. The possibilities are endless ! I've got my cats on Prowl, and it's CURED my cat's IBD, which has improved my life greatly (and his, but it's all about me ! THK is AWESOME food!

Small dogs generally need 2X because their stomachs can't hold enough food for a day all at once. Deep-chested large dogs (IMO) should be fed 2X as one of the bloat-avoidance measures.
Like Jenni, I add RMBs when I feed THK. IMO, that makes it a perfect food! Raw, and all the produce done for you.

If you really want to go nuts w/meat and RMB's, they have a new food called Preference that has no meat and is intended as a mixer only. I always dread the produce processing, so these formulas are a big help, and I can stop worrying that I forgot something or screwed up the balance.

Oh, I think I read something about that.
I feed raw, with THK as backup for travel and dog-sitters, so I already go nuts with meat and RMBs and all , but it sounds good for someone who is nervous about raw feeding.

Thanks for the tips,I figure I'll start the transition slow as suggested and once they are used to it I'll throww in some other stuff to keep costs down.As far as a balance goes is there anything I should stay away from?Sorry for sounding so "newbee" but I don't want any health issues. Thanks.
On a seperate note this is already starting an argument with the gf.She thinks I'm nuts --First I switched from Science Diet to Canidae and now fron that to THK.She thinks food is food and that I'm obsessive

Everyone I meet thinks I'm nuts...and they also think my dogs are in better shape than any they've seen...so I take it as a compliment. I think we have the responsibility to provide the absolute BEST we can for our dogs...or we shouldn't have them at all. Extreme? Maybe. Can't help it. I admit that more than one human male has had issues w/the way I am about my dogs, but it's ok. I think they're mostly jealous that my dogs have better muscle tone, hair, and teeth than they do. I don't miss them much.
And now back to our THK discussion...

I've been feeding 1-2 cups of Canidae and 1 cup of THK (about 1/2 the recommended amount), with some chicken breast, burger, gizzards, etc. to my GSD who has a very sensitive stomach. She was on a completely raw diet, but I am super busy and found it difficult to maintain a balanced selection. She is actually doing better on the new "mixture". I think that the THK is too expensive to feed entirely. The 10 lb container lasts me a little over one month at 1 cup a day. BTW, my girl weighs between 65-68 lbs.
