Sitting at work just now I got a phone call that while my gf was brushing my 4yr. old he growled and snapped at her twice This has never happened. He has NEVER shown aggression to anyone let alone snap. She corrected him immediately and checked him for possible sores which might have caused him to snap. She found nothing. She is not a guest in the house she lives with me so he spends a great deal of time with her.Could this be because of the pup?(which I've had for a year now)Any insite would be great
This will not be tolerated and I'd hate to get rid of her over my dog
Maybe he heard that she thinks he should eat Science Diet .
Does she usually do this kind of thing when you're not home? My dog will tolerate other people if I'm there, but if not, he can get aggressive. As a 4mo old puppy, a friend who was staying at the house tried to give him a bath and he growled at her until she quit. He'd appeared to like her before this incident, but he'd never been alone with her. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he sees you as leader, and not her, and he's therefore unwilling to submit to unpleasant things at her hands.
He definitly sees me as the leader and in fact rarely listens to her when I'm there, but she has brushed him in the past. After she corrected him apparently she said he rolled on his back and submitted but I'm still stumped by this behavior.
Funny as it sounds I did think of the Science Diet thing
Sounds familiar. My boyfriend (now EX couldn't be left alone w/mine. He was a huge jerk (the dog). He would act like he didn't know his own name if my bf said it, would attempt to knock him over "accidentally," etc. I had to separate them . I take the submission as a good sign; perhaps he was surprised she corrected him, and was just testing the waters to see what he could get away with.
Thanks again Jenni,I will brush him myself when I get home to see if he gets fiesty with me.He usually likes getting groomed so I don't expect a problem.Hopefully this is a one time thing.
