Ok, I asked this question in another forum but got no answer. Is it ok to taser a dog to break up a dog fight (fully knowing the aggression may turn on you)? And if so, what is a good voltage and what is too much?

Uuuuhhhhhhh, I would absolutely say that is a bad idea. Why would you want to risk having any type of aggression turned towards yourself or any other person? Take a look at Ed's information on How to Break Up Dogfights, that has great information.

Brian, do you mean fights between your own two pitbulls, or fights at the kennel where you work, or what ???
Keeping dog-aggro canines separated from each other so they can't fight is the best idea -- But if you can legally use a stun-baton in your state (500K-750K) a stun-bat can be safely utilized to prevent dogs from engaging, or to temporarily disable a rank dog who's trying to attack your leashed pet...
How come we're allowing 2 dogs anywhere near each other that need to be tasered to be separated? EEK. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth, Brian. If they're that determined that all the "usual" means don't work, how 'bout they just don't see each other for the rest of their respective lives?

I have the same question.
Since your posts seem to address lots of dog-dog aggression, and you work at a kennel and dog-sit dogs who have a fighting history, I'd really strongly recommend that you invest the small amount that this video costs: http://www.leerburg.com/301.htm
While waiting for that to arrive, I'd spend 1/2 hour each evening reading the articles on Leerburg.com for which Carol Boche gave you URLs.
Having that much exposure to aggressive dogs, I think, makes you responsible for getting a solid understanding of canine aggression.
I'd commit to reading all those articles and watching the DVD (twice) as soon as possible.
JMO. I commend you for logging on here and asking questions. You're in the right place.
Yes, I've seen a club friend's stun-baton used QUITE effectively to break up a fight between two Akitas -- But, a "wimpy" model would be useless on any good-sized K9 in fight-mode (you really need one between 500K & 750K to do the job)...
Plus, a stun-bat can also be discharged into the air to prevent an engagement from getting started -- It makes an awful spark/noise/smell that would deter MOST dogs from attacking in the first place.
