Reading that back, it sounded like I was endorsing the working/showline cross. Not so. You can definitely see both elements in him (whether or not he actually inherited the traits from the genes that I'm attributing them to is anyone's guess...)
He seems to have a working-line dog's structure and forward aggression, with a show-dog's prey-drive and nerves. Basically he hates the world and isn't scared to show it. But he's coming around.

Aww, give him a break. That could describe me sometimes, too! <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Both nice looking dogs, Simon. Keep us updated on the Bouve especially, since there aren't too many in this group. Nice to have a change of pace <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />.
Hi Simon,
Is this your first Bouvier?
My husband and I have talked about adding one to our pack some day. Your dog sounds nice and looks very nice.I hope to read up on his training for PP. Keep in touch.
Didn't have much experience with Bouviers before I got him. I liked the idea of protection training a dog that didn't have that "macho" image. Only problem is often people won't give your dog the same "space" that most working breeds are afforded. Strangers tend to treat him like he's a big golden retriever, and he's not.
If you're used to working-line shepherds and thinking of a Bouvier, the only problem is finding a good one. Unless you're importing from a Dutch or French kennel, there are probably only a handful of working-line breeders in North America.
As far as my PP training goes, it's definitely been a learning experience. I've got a good bond with the dog, and his obedience is solid, which goes a long way in the training. Still, bottom line (and this goes for any PPD, regardless of how stable), you trust your handling, not the dog. I think this helps keep me out of trouble.
