Never fails. I go out to find a nice isolated area and some idiot lets his/her dog off leash to run over to me. I yell at them to get their dog and of course, the dog doesn't respond to them. Then again, there are the strays that come by and I have no idea what they have in mind. My backyard isn't big enough for a good work out so I go to the safest park I know.
Do any of you run into this? I don't want to jump into the pepper spray but darn it! I just want to be left alone.
ah, ranting off.

Yes, this is one of my biggest pet peeves. I've been tracking my dog & people just let their unleashed dog run right up to us. They usually say "don't worry, my dog is friendly, it's ok if they play". I feel bad because I want to tear them a new one, but I know they don't mean any harm.

Yeah, I just recently posted about trying to walk my 4 mo old GSD pup down my sidewalk with tons of loose dogs around, most who try to approach my pup. It's like you said, you have no idea what the stray will do, even if their posture is not threatening at first doesn't mean their intentions won't change in a blink of an eye. I don't want to spray every loose dog that wants to approach my pup, but my pup comes first. It is infuriating to say the least. I've just stopped walking my pup in my neighborhood, and the fact that I've had to do this really frosts my cookies!!

Well I feel your pain, A week agao I was working on my long downs due to a trial we're having In january, so I am trying to do as many obedience exercise so that I will be prepared for my trial. My 3 shepherds are on a long down off leash, I am about 100 feet or more away standing and watching making sure none of them are getting up.Their downs are pretty solid right now so I am comfortable at being 100 feet away to do this.ALL of a sudden I see a pomeranian coming up fast at my 3 GSD's. the owner of this dog can see that my shepherds are laying down off leash and I am at a pretty good distance.WHAT DOES HE DO? sits on a park bench and watches ,not once did he call his dog back from being chewed up .(maybe) Well the pomeranian stops about 6 feet from my shepherds and start to scratch the ground with his hind legs as if he is challenging the 3 to a duel??????
I picked up the pomeranian brought him to his owner and I said" the next time your dog walks up to mine it's fair game. I walked back to my shepherds and left I was so mad.But my shepherds did not break their down exercise THANK GOD!!! Cause you know who would end up looking bad, the bigs dogs.

Way to go Angelique! And hooray to your beautiful GSD's! And they are beautiful, I've seen their pics. Excellent obedience, great training. I am impressed; of all the scenarios that could have played out, they chose the right one. Hooray for them!

Angelique, C'mon now!! Are you kidding? That idiot let his 6 pound pooch waddle on over to 3 GSDs off leash? I believe you, I really do but c'mon. That has to top the list of all the stories I've heard on this board of idiotic dog owners.
Mike, what a great story. I really enjoy your posts but that one was special. LOL. Your comment about not feeding them was priceless !

I'll believe anything I hear about people lately. People seem to assume that extremely obedient somehow equals "friendly." They compliment how well-controlled your dog has been for hours, and yet when you answer "no" to the friendly question, they're ready to report you and demand to know why that beast is off-leash.
I had a min-pin CHARGE my GSD who was just climbing out of a pond...I immediately said "ignore it-swim" and Caleb went back into the pond. The woman says "It's ok. They know each other. Your boyfriend and the pug and shepherd were out yesterday and they all got along great." To which I responded "I don't have a boyfriend, and I sure as heck don't have a pug." After asking me if I was absolutely sure , she was stunned and sheepish when she realized that she'd sent her tiny dog up to a strange dog literally 10x his size. She thankfully realized how badly the situation could've been and I don't think she'll do it again w/out making sure it's the same dog...
At least she made an honest mistake; some people are just plain stupid. And it's their dogs who suffer.
