I know every dog is different and she is just a baby. But I have been doing sht style tracking since she was 8 weeks and now 16 weeks and she is still bonkers. She pulls hard flips all around and goes nuts. If we are just walking on the grass her nose is always on the ground anyway but when I try to track with her she goes nuts. I have tried holding on to her collar but she still can flip her self butt first.
HYPER HYPER HYPEr. I have tried making her tired first but
she still gets nuts. long track, short track, much food little food, still nuts. Good times. Not really looking for advice she will learn in the long run. I just felt like talking about my nutty dog that bites me all the time.

Those who would give up essential freedoms for the temporary feeling of safety deserve neither!!
OK , I had 2 pups diffrent bloodline few days in between the two .At 16 weeks I started to take them out to track.I started in the house first just for them to get the idea(they were 9 weeks about)But at 16 weeks I thought ok they have all their shots safe to take them out and track at the park. I start with Strabo (16 wks) and I lay a track short but sweet and full of food.I bring him to the start of the track and he starts to put his head down eats the first few hot dog bits and looks up and sees a bird on the ground and starts to bolt to the bird(yes he is on a leash), ok done I take him back to the car thinking I'll just lay another track for him after the other puppy is done .I bring puppy number 2 ,Bandit, He walk to the track I showed him the start and said seek and he lays right on top of the food and looked at me like I had said"play dead" That was one of my worst but funny traking moments with both of those puppies, I kept on it but man it took patients with those 2.OK Now they are 10 months of age ,I no longer have Strabo but I have Bandit and he tracks like a charm, very methodical. I think as long as you keep trying eventually as she gets older, she'll have the focus on her track better.I'm thankful mine did eventually! By the way i did take food away before tracking so that they would be motivated to track for food, and still I think they were just not interested yet in tracking.Looking back they were very funny that day.
I think fun is the key word. Even when the dog only finds a piece or two of food its still fun for the both of us.
I laugh when she is tracking good so I pat her and say good track. If I leave my patting hand in her sight for to long
she will redirect her attention to bitting the crap out of my hand. No matter what happens she always finds the food at the end of the track.
"ANGELIQUE" I think that is a great name.
Good thing we are not talkng in person cause I would mess
it up bad.
Yes, and I told you who used to call me that and when: my high school buds , seems so long ago, shoot it was long ago

Both of our GSD's frustrated us when we got started with tracking. We started GSD2 a little differently than GSD1. (Thankfully) the results have been the same as you mention - both are solid trackers. When GSD3 comes along though, we will lay the foundation the way we did for GSD2 (even though that had it's frustrating moments as well).
I'm no SchH expert by any stretch of the imagination. But if you want to PM me, I'll be happy to share how we did it different (foundation wise) in case that turns out to be helpful info.
