I have heard that raw egg is good for a dogs coat. If so how often should it be given? And can it cause upset stomach or anything? Kane loves to try to find egg shells in the garbage! Even though his coat is already very shiny... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I wouldnt mind giving him a raw egg if I knew it was ok for him... and how often. Any ideas?
My dog gets 4-5 eggs a week. I toss them in his bowl, which cracks them a little bit. he saves them for last - licks up the liquid and then eats the shell.
I use to give about 4-5 a week, until reading that too many raw eggs will rob the (dogs) body of biotin, an essential B vitamin. A B-deficiency will also make a dog scratch and chew themselves. (and this she was doing!) So I experimented and am down to about 2-3 a week (alternating weeks) and have noted my dog not scratching anymore. It has been about two months now.
The extra eggs did not seem to affect her as a growing pup (only alfalfa and starchy veggies), but after 18 months, she started scratching.
Just my experience.
The eggs are a treat for my dogs. They get perhaps 3 or 4 a week, sometimes less. I have not noticed any excessive scratching or chewing, and their stomachs seem fine also.
