Our 9month old pup is positively great, the absolutely best pup I've ever owned. Unlike our dobie, no food sensitivities other that taking what seems like f.....o....r....e....v...e.....r to eat especially when I'm in a hurry.
Now something new, he, for some unexplaineable reason is afraid or at least leary of his water bowl. He was quite the water hound, drinking quite a bit and now he seems afraid to approach the bowl. I thought he might have gotten a static shock but you wouldn't think that could happen with a water bowl.
Any thoughts? I'm baffled

Everyone should read Cindy's post on page two. I would never have thought of this. I added her concern to the title of the topic so people would read about this

Give him a time limit to eat, like 15 minutes, while you're getting ready to go to work or go out. Pick the bowl up & don't feed him until his next scheduled feeding-time. Are you maybe over-feeding him? What are you feeding him, by the way? Maybe you could change the bowl to a ceramic one or a bucket?
There's also a bunch of previous threads on this topic, just do a search on it.
Good luck!

Eating his food is not a problem (inconvinient at times) and he mostly finishes within about 15 min or so. It's the water bowl that has me a little baffled. I did switch the bowl but it didn't make a difference.

I don't think I have the answer but I wonder if ice cubes could help in some way. My dog loves ice cubes. I have 2 kinds of ice cubes - the refridgerator ones are bigger and gave them to him when he was older (I'm paranoid about choking so don't mind me) but I also have an icemaker which makes small cubes of ice that are perfect if your pup is young. Either way, if he likes ice cubes maybe you could put the ice cubes in his water dish along with a little bit of water to prod his nose into the dish. And if this doesn't work w/water in the bowl, I'd leave the ice cubes in the bowl for him to chew on. At least he'll get some water into him for the time being.
I wonder how long this has been going on? Maybe he just doesn't feel 100%?? If that's not it and he's perfectly happy every other way, I'm sufficiently baffled too!

How bizzare! I'd go see the vet, too. Are there any environmental factors that could be affecting him, e.g., a slippery kitchen floor? Is he exercising less? Has he had a recent diet change & now gets most of his moisture requirements from his food? Maybe put a little chicken or beef broth in the water to flavor it? How about putting some water in his food?

Puppies do strange things. Leave the water where it is, he'll get used to it. When he gets thirsty enough, he'll drink. He'll figure out nothings going to hurt him and the problem will be solved.

Oh, he feels just fine. Runs, plays and is eating just fine. Absolutely no changes other than this new mistrust of his water bowl. This morning he went out for his walk and then it was play time. He play fought with the dobie, ran some intense hot laps around the yard (I've go 3/4 acre fenced) and when he came in went to the water bowl. David you are right, thirsty enough he will drink. But, he could not have been farther away from the bowl and still reach it. He was leaning so extream he was about the height of a dauchsund and standing upright he is almost as tall as our dobe. This is weird.

Is there anyway he could have experienced something negative while at his water bowl? It could be anything from a bee sting, another dog acting aggressive, a loud sudden noise or a person stepping on his paw or accidentally dropping something on him. That would be my first thought, anyway.
Have you tried switching the bowl to something that looks completely different (like a baking dish or big pot) AND moved it to a completely different place? I'm just wondering if it's the bowl or the placement of the bowl.
Don't you just wish dogs could talk sometimes?

Just a hunch, but could he have gotten spooked by seeing his reflection in the water ???

Just my 2 cents put the water bowl in a different place like outside so when he comes to the door it will be there before coming in. (this also saves on water messes). You could also try putting it high up (they have stands for them now days).
Puppies go though different stages this could be one. Once my pup was ok with the trash can the next day she was freaked out two days later she was fine again go figure.
