$4000, apparently.
Who would pay $4000 for a yorkshire terrier?! From a pet store! I commented in a louder-than-usual voice that it was outrageous, and that the top show yorkie in Canada has pups selling for half that price with a much more extensive guarentee. Not that I'd ever buy a yorkshire terrier, too little for me.
I feel dirty for even having gone in. I just wanted to look into crate prices!

Some people think that the more expensive a dog is the higher the quality must be. Then again, these are the kind of people that think it's okay to buy a dog from a pet store in the first place.
Personally, I won't buy anything from pet stores that sell any animals other than fish and small animals. I don't like supporting them in any way. Yesterday I was in the mall and walked by the mall's pet store. In the window was a Goldie puppy that had rolled in his own poo and was covered in it. Then, a movie and 2 hours of shopping later, I walked by again on my way out. The dog was still covered in poo...and no water in the water bottle. And you should see how the dogs cower when confronted by a kid that works there. It breaks my heart. I went in to tell the teenagers about the condition of the dog and they looked at me like there was something wrong with me. Grr.

We have a pet store in the Mall about two hours away from here that sells "mutts" for $500 and up.....GRRRRR
They are kept 2-4 pups in a 2.5 by 2.5 space and they have 12 of those spaces and most of them are always full, it is hotter than H*** and I have told them more than once the pups were out of water.
OH, did I mention you can get a domestic shorthair kitten for $195??
Crap like that needs to be better monitored.
Just my two cents.......

"A fool & their money are soon parted"... And if you ever have a hard time unloading a used car, just DOUBLE the asking price & it'll sell in no time flat <:-O
An idiot in my office just bought some kind of utterly ridiculous "designer" dog for BIG bucks, despite my advice that he could find the exact same mix at any shelter for the $35 altering fee -- And you KNOW what his response was: but I want to BREED them, so I'm NOT getting it fixed >=(
How anyone can live without a dog is beyond me... |

Stop it, I cannot stand ignorance.I had the same thing at the vet's office and I could hear some guy bragging about his pup, I looked over the counter and I thought, what breed is this?, well when he left , I said to the receptionist " what dog was that?" she said "a beagle ,lab mix .And he paid $800 for it"
She laughed at the end of her sentence and I thought That guy is another uneducated dog owner .He bought a Mutt for $800 they have tons at the shelter like you said for less.Unbelievable!
So many people buy from pet stores it's absolutely mind boggling.
Just think of how many horror stories you all have about one pet store you've come accross and times that by thousands.............
SICKENING!!!

$4000?? My Word!! There's a sucker born every minute...
But, oh yes, you can breed them to get your money back. The thought of pet store pups makes me sick.
I'm currently trying to talk someone out of buying a doodle dog.

Well, the people who buy certainly have more money than sense! My mouth just dropped in astonishment with the stories that people even consider pet-store dogs let alone pay those outrageous amounts. Haven't there been enough exposes on puppy-mills & pet stores?

Not enough my friend , not enough.....
We can help.
We can tell the store owners (even by a telephone message or email if we are worried about confrontation, or about not being articulate when we are angry) that we will not be spending money in their store on fish food or dog treats or crates or leashes, and it's because we will not support the sale of dogs in pet stores.
We can link our friends who are thinking about a pet store dog to sites like this:
http://dogs.about.com/cs/generalcare/a/pet_stores.htm
We know that no ethical breeder sells to pet stores, but sometimes our friends don't want to believe one individual. (And the pet store owners may even be deluded; they may believe what they say about their sources. That makes them all the more convincing.)
We can refuse to support these sales by refusing to patronize the stores, but it works even better when we say why.

That's an idea.

Hummmm I wonder.
