I have no idea if this is allowed here, and I'm sorry if it isn't. I have posted some questions concerning my son's male GSD on this site, and gotten some good answers. He is about 1 year old / 75lbs / Sable. He is not what I would call structurally sound, he is from show lines, he will bark, while he is backing up. If anyone asked me what type of GSD to get, I would have waived them away from anything close to this dog (son did ask, but didn't listen), yet he is pretty to look at, he is responsive smart, but not problem solving smart, and he is sweet tempered, and he needs obedience work.
The son is deploying to Iraq, his wife has her hands full with my Grand-Daughter, therefore I have the dog. I need to place him in a good home, does anyone know of any GSD Rescue folks in Nebraska?

Go to the German Shepherd Dog Club of America website, find the nearest GSD local affliate group, and contact their Rescue Committee Chairperson -- That being said, I wouldn't give away someone's dog while they're on active duty in a hot war (especially NOT my own son's pet...) but maybe that's just me <:-(

I know Candi, but he knows that he can't do right bt the dog, and therefore he has asked me to handle this. He has a full plate at the moment, otherwise I'd be telling him to handle it himself. Also, I don't want him handing the dog off to whoever without checking them out, therefore I am going to go through rescue to make sure that he goes to a GOOD, stable home.

There are rescues that specifically handle re-homing pets from deployed military personnel.
Here is a link to one of them
http://www.operationnoblefoster.org
You can also contact the HSUS as they also help military pets.
Also try to find a local GSD rescue.

Kevin, I'm sure you're doing the best thing for all concerned & that either the GSD Club Rescue, or the folks Angela posted a link for, will find an excellent home for this dog <:-)

A final update on this, Dutch was finally X-Rayed and YES he was completely dysplastic, on the vet's advice he was put down at 14 months old. It was heart wrenching for my wife, my son and my daughter in law. I will say that my son learned a HARD lesson, what's more before he left for Iraq he showed me an Omaha newspaper in which these people were selling ANOTHER litter of GSD pups, same EXACT breeding, for $300.00 a piece. In FULL knowledge of what befell Dutch.
The breeder is in Milford, Nebraska. Which is around 45 mintes WEST of Lincoln.

Another heads up, these folks are also breeding Doberman Pinschers.
